Is it milled?

You have a pre-ban Type 56 Sporter which is the no longer importable semi auto version of the ChiCom Type 56. The Triangle 66 is the Norinco aka North China Industries. It is a good AK. I would keep it as a shooter.

I think that the 56 Sporters were all stamped. But I have been wrong before.

Wasn't there a few 56S rifles that had the 3rd pin at one time?

I think those were all the milled Mak90s that came in during the early 90s, if you are talking about the guns that got out on the market and then the ATF tracked them back down...

OP = I would shoot it, nice gun, but with good Arsenal (Russian) guns available now, it seems that the market is not as strong for the Chinese guns... That seems to be the way local conditions are anyways.

Believe it or not, my brother had a full auto AK.  The full auto position was not marked on the receiver.  But it had a full auto sear and it would fire full auto if you properly applied the selector.  It scared the hell out of my brother the first time he fired a burst.

But after that he played dumb and fired it only in the semi auto mode.    I don't know what happened to the rifle.  It was over 25 years ago.

The only clue that leads me to believe it may not be is that he got a Legend manual with it.  Perhaps that was intentional.

Not bad!

OP, my Norinco AK is a great shooter. My Polytech is the queen of my stable.

The PolyTech Legend manual doesn't belong - it's a different gun altogether.

If the gun hasn't been fired, I wouldn't shoot it - it will command a premium price and you can pick up something else to go bang-bang-bang with at the range.

I have a Chinese AK that I bought in 1986 and it a great rifle. It has fired 1000s of rounds, even been under water a few time and has never jammed or faltered in any way.

Just throw it in the garbage can where it belongs.

ETA: or sell it to me, they like to have company and they travel in packs

Chinese stamped AK rifles are well made.  They use 1.5mm thick sheet metal for the stamped receiver (.5 mm thicker than Russian made rifles) due to limitations in Chinese metallurgy at the time, and were actually selected by USN SEALs when they purchased some AKs some time back.

The Legend series AK with it's milled receiver would be a gem to own.  An almost exact copy of the rifle that the PLA supplied to the NVA (and used by some VC) during the Vietnam War.
