David Simon, the main creator, used to write for the Baltimore Sun on crime. He wrote the book the TV show Homicide: Life on The Street (called Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets), he also wrote another book that was made into a HBO miniseries (The Corner, book named the same) before The Wire. Ed Burns used to be a Baltimore City police detective. Many of the other writers have experience in law enforcement/inner city culture. The Wire will never be topped. |

What McNulty said about patrol is the gospel. "Baker, Let me let you in on a little secret, The patrolling officer on his beat is the one true dictatorship in America, we can lock a guy up on the humble, lock him up for real, or say fuck it and drink ourselves to death under the expressway and our side partners will cover us, No one - I mean no one - tells us how to waste our shift! " Kinda makes me miss patrol.
