I've seen dedicated threads for many different genres but not this one. So here goes: a thread for Medieval music (generally speaking). No Pagan/Medieval/Folk/Viking Metal please (E Guitars didn't exist back then http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slMpq00X2uc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y54WsSMgBKI (Very good band from Southern Germany with a fantastic cover version of a famous Medieval song. Mesmerizing flute and violin passages.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btLK0gqj-vw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwJAgZ6TUMQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efsXGg-2I04 (Interesting band: part German part Turkish, from the same city as Ayragon but educated in Switzerland at the famous Musik Akademie Basel.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGUeb2zeWqI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14eVSyJSMAY (A bit on the Folk Rock side but fairly close anyway) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2kc570KwUs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=At9hfg0uUzE Someone embed please... |

I dig rennaissance lute tunes and whatnot –– even know how to play a couple of them on my classical guitar and have a large book full of written lute pieces.
But generally... when I'm in the mood to go all "midieval" with music I put on something from Kamelot's "Epica" era. I'd much rather go into midieval battle with "Farewell" blasting in my ears than some heart-broken John Dowland lute piece about a knight who is in love with a queen and she can never know it.

Interesting music...takes me back to one of my previous lives when I was a tavern wench in the 1400's Nice! I digs me some tavern wenches! Would like to get the wife into the whole rennaissance fair deal so she would wear the "wench top". I love all that stuff but...renn people are annoying as hell....pseudo hippies and potheads galore.... |

Probably why I've never even so much as been to a renn fair even on the rare occasion we have facsimiles of such events here. The local crew loves to march down the street during parades doing their sword-fighting and whatnot. I can't help but always be reminded of the Dungeons and Dragons geeks from my childhood when I see them. Maybe I should just ask the wife to wear a wench top around the house! |
