I can't get into my favorite IRC chat room now because they decided to make it invitation only!
I am friends with one of the mods but I don't remember his EXACT user name and have no way to contact ANYONE in the room to get in.

does anyone know how I can get a message into the room to let them know I'm even there trying to get in?

the room is #guns on efnet

Just /msg someone who you know in the channel and ask for an invite.

Sometimes you just aren't popular enough to be invited to the parties.

Efnet is still alive? I stopped using that in like 1998

the problem with that is I don't know anyones EXACT nick which is needed to message them

I knew I should have added people to the friends list

IRC is good times.  Just start messaging people you remember seeing in the room.  They can contact a mod.

one of the mods is my friend but I don't know his exact nick, not to mention he uses variations often

Depending on the channel modes you can list the members of the channel. Try running /names #channel. So long as the channel isn't set +s, it should print out a list of all the current members.

sounds shady

call your "friend" on the phone and ask him for his nick
or send him an email
or a Facebook msg
or an AOL IM msg
or go to his house

The only other way I could contact him would be to send him a letter.... with the address from the return label off the box he sent me some wad cutters in
I can't to his house because he lives halfway across the country.

I met him on a forum which we both left and started our own little chat room and later stopped using that so I only see him on efnet now which he turned me onto. He uses variations of "Beretta" as his nick but I don't know exactly what it is right now to message him.

what about this sounds shady?

Is there a way I could contact one of the server mods? how do I find one?
I tried "/names #guns" with no luck

Then just /whois every variation of Beretta you can think of until the right one hits.

There are other things you can try, there's a bunch of things on http://www.irchelp.org/ .

not a bad idea, at least if I /whois the nicks it will tell me if someone is online with that nick

Try "/who #guns".

Try googling to see if they have a website for the channel.  There might be contact info there.

Try joining similar channels like #politics and whoising ops and random chatters to see what other channels they're in.  If you find one who's in #guns, great.  If  ot, look for closer channel names, like maybe #americanpolitics or #republicans or #shooting or something.  Then repeat the trick in those smaller channels.

Also, just plain ask in the big channel.  "Anyone in #guns?  I need an invite."

Also try listing channels with guns or shooting or "liberals suck" or whatever in the topic or even name.  Then do the above trick.

Once you get in, friend your buddies on facebook so you have an alternate contact method.
