I am looking for a smartphone.I don't like buying new phone and the contract that usually goes with them.  I would like a physical keyboard.

I have been looking on Craigslist and can pick up a Droid 1 or 2 for under $100.

So what should I look out as in problems with them? and those that have owned them, what do you think of them in general

Are you under contract or eligible for upgrade?
Verizon's website has Droid X2s and 3s for $10 w/new contract right now.  Think it lasts about another week.
See you don't want a contract, but for that price, you may consider.

I've been eligible for years. I just dislike phone contracts in general.

I would pay no more than $25 for a mint condition Droid 1. I got mine new with a contract when they came out, and it was terrible. Constant finger tracking problems with the screen, a battery that would need plugged in after 6 hours and no use on the phone and randomly shutting down programs when I was using them. Hopefully the 2 is a much better phone.

I've had my Droid2 for about 15 months and I'm pretty happy with it so far.  Battery life isn't bad, but some apps and features will drain battery a lot faster than others.  It's holding up well so far.  I can't think of any reason not to get one, except maybe new phones are better... but that's always the case.
