sorry... I'm classifying juvenile sex offenders right now. I'm feeling kinda vengeful.

Ive worked here for 5 years, and personally dealt with 2. its not as common as the media would lead you to believe. Sentenced inmates know how serious this crime is. now, consensual acts where one party decides they want out.... that's more common....

It's only the good looking and skinny guys who get raped in prison, right?

Not very common at all - and I work in corrections.  Forcible rape between inmates is extremely rare.  We have a much bigger problem with staff + inmate consensual sexual misconduct.

Having said that, it did not stop the federal government from creating the Prison Rape Elimination Act, a far ranging set of federal regulations that will touch nearly every aspect of state and local corrections.

It's a solution in search of a problem IMHO.

I wouldn't waste any time worrying about it. The stigma with being a felon once you're out and being stuck in prison for years is worse than being raped would ever be.

"takin cheeks" is how it was referred in the facility where I did some behavioral work a few years back. What the actual rates are like most sex crimes are really unkown, as reporting and such goes. The type of facility (min, max, etc) impacts the chances too. I would argue talking with some of the inmates I have the line of consent vs not is really fucking gray. As one inmate told me, being raped was horrible, but death or paralysis was worse, given that choice is it really a choice? I don't think it is as common as the HBO show OZ made it out to be, but I don't think it is uncommon either. There are other "forceable acts" that occur too.

It like many of the other horrible things that happen inside are enough for me to fear ever going there.

I would agree with a previous post that said inmate/staff sexual acts are big issue and concern too.

Boy tell me about it.  A friend of mine recently started working at a women's prison and said that in the two months he's been there they've caught three guards fucking the inmates.

About 20 years ago I worked in and around numerous county jails.  Male on male rape was pretty uncommon.  Female on female rape  in the women's jails/units was more common.  It seemed that the most brutal jail beatings and rapings were primarily in the women's units.

I spent a couple of hours today dealing with a juvenile who conducted a home invasion on a classmates house while masked. He robbed her at knife point of her laptop, cell phone, and raped her. Im not sure im sociopath material, but sometimes I wish bad things would happen to bad people. Its been a depressing day.

For a bunch of supposed constitutionalists, there seems to be a few too many people calling for cruel and unusual punishments. Encouraging the act is about the same as sentencing it in court.

I worked 3 years in a facility that houses 2500 to 3000 inmates. During that time it happened ONCE. And it was in the mental health unit perpetrated by a crazy on a vulnerable crazy.

I've always taken the position that if I were ever faced with the situation, I'd fight to the death. I don't plan on going to jail, so I'm not very concerned, but if fate takes me there, I'd be willing to kill or possibly die for this.

Was about to say the exact same thing. But hey, the only parts of the constitution that matter are the parts you like, right?
