We are looking for a fairly simple and easy-to-use video editing program to whack up stuff we shoot on our digital cameras and phones, for posting on YouTube and other online outlets. We'd like to be able to incorporate still photos with effects, add titles and other animated text, add music or other sound, and other basic production stuff.

I'm not trying to make the next Batman movie, so I'd like to be in the few-hundred-dollar range at most.

Thanks!

Go get a MacMini, load it with RAM from a 3rd party like newegg.  iMovie comes with the software loaded on the computer along with the rest of the iLife sutie and you are good to go

As much as it pains me to admit it, MS Movie Maker is a decent tool and it's a free download for Win7.

My wife put together several still/action/movie sequences with custom titles, menus, captions, transitions and music for both our relationship/marriage and the journey our son has had in the world.

Yep, for what you're doing it will work fine.

ETA: And it's free.  Which is awesome.

Nope, now you can't use it.

You need an NLE now.  Sony Vegas sounds right for you.

Yep, I love NLEs.  Use 'em at work a lot.  Make my life easy.

And yeah, that dude was talented.

I liked Cyberlink Power Director, cheap, free trial, has blue/green screen, multi track audio.

Does MS MovieMaker have multitrack audio?
