how in the hell do I open a second or third web browser while keeping one open and minimized?

File new window in chrome.

Or have different three browsers installed for different work tasks like I do I guess?

Just use tabbed browsing. "command + T" to open a new Tab. Same goes for Firefox.

Open new a window(Apple + N). What browser are you using?

Using Safari, click file in the upper left and click "new window" or "new tab."

It can't be that hard. I currently have 21 browser windows open - each one with 10 -20 tabs open in it.
