Wow, only 4 chapters in and what a novel! Why did they make 300 a film and not this book?

300 was fun for what it was. GoF would make a solid movie if done right.

I'm only on page 33; I say Netflix or HBO should make this a miniseries.

Wished Russel Crowe did this back when he did Gladiator, it would have been awesome.

It is a great read.
I am not sure they could have portrayed on screen the physical cost of war the Spartans endured.
Bloody hard work.

Pressfield is fantastic, and "Gates" is one of my all time favorites. It gets even better as the story progresses.

Fantastic book. One my all-time favorites.

I agree that it would make a great movie or miniseries, if done right. Would put 300 to shame.

My guess would be because 300 was a comic book.

300 is like if Joseph Goebbels was a Greek and wanted to make a movie about the 300. It's really ment to be like a "propaganda piece" in an art sense because it was being told by the Greeks of those ancient times. When you see old drawings that Greeks made of the battle, the Greek soldiers aren't wearing armor or any of that. But they actually did wear armor.

Themistocles probably did more for Greece than the 300 (and thousands of other Greeks who fought there). But it's more exciting to glorify the foot soldiers and not the Navy.
