I'm watching an electrician load up his van.
He is wearing a metal hard hat....
That doesn't sound like the best choice for his profession but I don't know anything about it.

What am I missing?

Metal hardhats allow for better electrical flow to the brain.

Electricians are specifically required to wear non conductive PPE.  


1910.135(a)(2)  "Protective helmets designed to reduce electrical shock hazard shall be worn by each such affected employee when near exposed electrical conductors which could contact the head."

Are you sure it's not a silver plastic hat?  I haven't seen a metal hard hat in years.

Probably doesn't apply... but the guys that work the high voltage lines wear chainmail.
