Every day. A lot of my customers don't use e-mail. I do business printing and some art files don't translate well between different graphics programs, helps avoid mistakes A few of my suppliers will only take purchase orders by fax, a few won't mail or e-mail invoices, they'll only fax them which is a stupid pain in the ass Dealing with many businesses in Mexico it's easier to fax than e-mail |
| I imagine most of you don't work in the healthcare field where you have to deal with HIPAA patient confidentiality. Emailing patient info and prescriptions securely is a total pain in the ass, but all faxing is considered secure. It will be a while before doctor's offices and pharmacies completely stop using fax machines. |

With my father in a CA nursing home, I'm frequently receiving and sending, via fax, medical, POA, and insurance documents. I had to buy one specifically for these reasons. ![]() |

Docusign gets rid of the need for a fax machine. Original documents are created on a computer and securely emailed for electronic confirmation/signature online. (No printer/scanner/fax required.) However, still of lot of banks and gov that insist on wet ink. Quoted: Real Estate and law industry still uses them. |

We use them at the office, because we have to. In a few years, it will all be PDFs via email. We send PDFs to people who are with it, and we send faxes to people who need to get with it. Yeah because we all want to add more steps to daily work... Lets print the shit off, sign it, scan it, upload it, attach it, then send it. Fax machine...sign, send, done. I cant wait until the "e-world" has its massive crash and all these dependent bastards are running around punching themselves in the head like Rain Man. |

Fax machines are OK but for one fact. Most places only use them because they have to for one small reason or another. I go to places and replace the complete system overnight. Sever, network, workkstations, and printers. Transfer data from old to new and set it up again on the new. I have always got it done with time to spare. Irt needs to be up and reunning by 6 and I stand by for any problems till 9. I even fix vendors stuff so it interfaces wit the new system. Not in the contract but I'm a nice guy. Makes the customer happy not having to wait on the vendor to show up.
I write all my time as in scope with no delays due to something outside the contract 99.9% of the time. Anything outside I need to keep track of so the company knows how to bid ALMOST ALL DELAYS ARE DUE TO THERE 1000 YEAR OLD FAX MACHINE THAT THEY HAVE NOT SERVICED IN 999 YEARS !!!!!!!!!!!! It wont handshake with the other fax because the only analog line has so much noise on it. It wont feed ONE FUCKING sheet at a TIME !!!!!!! sometimes 2 or 5 or 6 but not 1 out af a 20 page fax. Sometimwes it wont feed at all. Or it cant be read on the other end ect ect ect. ( Hey it worked fine 7 months ago when we last used it.) No one ever buys a new one. Its the same piece of crap when I was at the same pace 6 years ago and 2 systems ago. I luck out once in 40 maybe. They have a MFP that has fax functions. I take the phone line off there shitty stand alone. Most of the time there not even using the fax function. There are no leagal reasons to have it anymore. Its time is over I've taken to bringing a scanner and using print to fax on my laptop. Saves the fax machine fight that hast taken up to 1 to 2 hours just to send a fax required by the contract. |

Another big reason fax machines are still around are for all the forms where a signature is needed.
I am sure there could be some hardware akin to the signing thing for credit card transactions, but as of yet there hasn't been anyone coming out with one that can be used to send real signatures via email without the risk. I've seen one that make a jpg of your signature and attach it to the bottom, but anyone could copy that jpg and use it again and again I guess for a fake fax someone could take a document you signed and cut your signature out and physically paste it where it needs to be then fax the doctored document, but that is a lot more work and could only be done at two points. |

Life was was simpler before all this crap....cell phones, email, etc.....sure it has its place, but computers are still not the end all. People left a message (if you had an answering machine if it was important). People expected that a response might be a day or two. Shit got done in order of importance, not arrival. People actually talked on a phone or met in person to confirm things. Computer 'issues' were definitely not viable excuses like today's world. |

I use a fax daily. It's easier than scanning a build sheet, then filing, then converting, then emailing and waiting for a confirmation from the recipient.
I can fax a document faster than it takes me to find the frikken progam on the computer that asks me if I want to copy, print, scan or abort. |

I use a fax machine at work. If we have a document, its easier to fax it, then it is to scan it, then email it. We also prefer to get invoices from faxes. If we requested them by email, we would open the email, then print it. If they fax its a bit easier. We also have customers who prefer faxes, so we fax invoices to them. |

We have a fax. We roll our eyes everytime someone needs to send us one or requests we send them something on one. We don't even get spam faxes anymore. For everyone that's living in this century we have a networked HP9250C that will do pdf, tiff, mtiff, or jpg in color or b&w, in qualities from 75dpi to 300dpi. It's got a duplexed page feeder or you can put your docs directly on the glass. I used to have 3 large 4 drawer filing cabinets in my office. I now have a DVD-RW drive and 1 small 2 drawer cabinet for the stuff that we absolutely need paper originals kept. Combining this with Adobe, Pure Edge, and Approve-It and we are measurably reducing our paper requirements, freeing up $$$ to go to other areas. MS Sharepoint is contributing to this also. It does have the disadvantage of being reliant upon reliable network access/electricity, but I don't know how anything ever got done without them. I don't know why so many people are so resistant to more automation. Luddites I guess. |
