I'm one of those people who wakes up in the morning and puts on whatever clothes I can find that are clean.  Being this way, I wear the same pair of shoes for almost everything.  A pair of nike running shoes.  These shoes are getting old and really, really worn out; they have several holes in them and the laces are getting chewed up and the soles are losing their tread pattern.  I need new shoes.

I also have no sense of style, but I do think wearing sneakers every day is a bit childish.  I don't know what makes me think this, but I think I need a pair of shoes that makes me look more mature.

That said, what does GD wear, and what should I get for my next pair of every day shoes?

I wear boots every day. Having worn them at work for 8+ years, they are what I am the most used to. You can get some nice boots with a low cut that pretty much look like shoes when you wear jeans or whatever.

This. Hell, I wear VFF most of the time.

ETA: Hiking boots would be great for what you're asking though.

I wear boots.  I have worn shoes to two weddings and one funeral in 30yrs.  In the summer my boots are not insulated.

This.

Different styles of footwear exist to fulfill different roles. Not just for "style".

Get a pair of clark's desert boots.  Great alternative to sneakers.

Bass Weejuns. They are inexpensive, inconspicuous, and good enough. Around $100.

I don't know what your budget is, but Allen Edmonds are always a solid choice around $300.

I suggest a nice brown color. Black leather often looks cheap.

You're correct. Sneakers/tennis shoes are made for sports. If you are not sporting, running, or exercising, then you shouldn't be wearing them.

Stay away from square-toes shoes.

Someone mentioned desert boots. Those are an excellent idea.

Clarks desert boots as an all around everyday shoe would be my advice to someone starting from nothing. Only time you should be wearing athletic shoes is when you're doing something athletic.

And some contradictory, albeit sound advice from the infernets:

I'm in a good mood, so I'll help you (and then probably just repost this the next time someone comes knockin').  In the future, use the search function and the stickied threads.  Do this instead of replying to any of these posts.i'm going to assume that the real goal here is to look good for the ladies, so...College wear for fun and profit;Your shit is going to get messy.  Beer is going to get spilled all over everything you own.  More than likely, you will sleep in the mud/bushes while wearing most of this stuff.  Girls will rub themselves on your pants, which is great, but unhygienic. First, get rid of your graphic tees.  If you want to wear t shirts, and who doesn't, just get some blanks from hanes/american apparel that fit well in the shoulders. Next, buy a pair of jeans.  Everyone here will tell you to buy raws, and they are right.  Don't ask what kind.  You're getting away with this much, so you can do some forum research next.  I will tell you that if you wait, jeans are cheap.  Buy jeans that fit you.Buy a pair of boots that are not desert boots. desert boots are boring and girls don't give a shit that they're based on imperialist rapist-wear. Buy something with a slight heel.  Do some research/read up on what you like.Do not wear adidas all-stars with gelly stripes.   Do not wear cargo shorts. Do not wear cargo shorts with your adidas all-stars. Chucks are whatever, but be warned that they will not get you any female attention.  do not fucking EVER wear your running shoes unless you're working out, I don't care what you think you know.Buy slim button downs on the cheap.  take j crew button downs to the tailor, whatever.  not everything has to be skin tight, but if you want to look like you take care of yourself, a good start is to buy clothes that fit you.don't save up and buy shit that you'll regret buying.  take advantage of fast fashion.  Look at WAYWT.  Most people are not spending a lot of money on anything.  Emulate them.  finally, clothes are not going to make you look better/more classy/ more cultured.  If you are a slob, cookie-cutter clothing is not going to fix anything.  If you are interested in looking like a mature human, or even an immature but stylish one, don't go throwing your money around.  Especially not during college. spend that shit on drugs and alcohol and parties.  and some boots.

New Balance is bawss for athletic shoes.  I'm on a pair of 1080s myself.

Most day though for running errands or whatnot, I'll just put on a pair of cheap flip flops.

Another one for Clark's desert boots. I wear those for everyday casual.

Clark's has great shoes for pretty much every occasion.

I am a college student and I walk several miles a day around campus. I feel your pain.

The best thing I have found so far comfort wise are trainers.

See if there is anything here than interests you:

ETA: for the sake of life itself. Don't buy boat shoes.

It depends.
I consider myself a low class clod when it comes to fashion.
But I have:
Three pairs of dress shoes, two pairs of casual shoes, two pairs of tennis shoes, and two pairs of western boots.

Athletic Shoes- New Balance 47X I own 2 pair and love them (a old pair of 476's and a new pair of 479's) Find the ones marked "Made in USA on the box, same price as their other shoes
Dress boots - Durango or DD Hog Nose Biker style boots
Work Boots - Carolina or Timberland with the Top Guards
Others - Doc Martin's (UK made only)

For boots remember 8"+ give great ankle support but weight more and allow less flexibility at the ankle (duh!) then 6" boots.

This is based on my use, comfort, and "style".

Man I need to throw out that pair of 476's I can smell them and they are still on my feet (had them 7 years now).

Georgia and C.E. Schmit boots seem like a good deal for the price but they aren't from my experience don't last longer then a year before springing leaks along the welt (spelling?,term?) Carolina's and Timberland's last me about 1 year on the job and another year around the farm be fore they just give out all together.

I go though 1 pair of Athletic shoes every 5 years, Dress boots 5 years, Workboots every year I get a new pair but usually take the old pair home for work on the farm, Others I haven't replaced because I haven't been able to find them since I moved 9 years ago but they were solid when they went into the box in TN and had 3+ years on them at that time.

Figure on paying $150+ for a great pair of boots.

While not on duty my EDW is a pair of Carolina logging boots. Comfortable, steel toe, steel shank, and ankle protection. Plus the are dark leather so they look nice with anything.
