So my employer has decided that I need a smart phone for work. I can choose between a Blackberry 9930 and an iphone 4S (16GB). First off I have no clue about smart phones so I am confused as to which one I should get. I know the iphone is uber popular but at work all I see are blackberries. However this could be due to that fact the company has only just recently offered the iphone.
Keep in mind this will be a work phone, 99% of its time will be spent making phone calls, reading and responding to e-mail and texting. Since I'm on the road fairly often taking and sending pictures is important also. So with the criteria listed above which one is better? |

HTC Vivid here. Between those two, the iPhone 4S without question. The only thing missing would be 4G LTE. If you can get something with LTE and hotspot, that is the ticket.
The pioneer of the integrated phone and email device, Blackberry now lags hopelessly behind all the others. Most notably, their web browser functionality sucks ass. |

Quoted: That would be a really tough choice for me. Just about anything is better than a Blackberry these days (RIM doesn't seem to be keeping up with the changing times at all), but I don't know that I could deal with all of Apple's bullshit either. What bullshit might that be??? OP, just get the iPhone. Just switched to one, and I will never go back to Android!

The new Blackberry Bold is the single best phone RIM has ever put out. The keyboard is the best on the market bar none. The OS and touch screen is pretty smooth. The email application is and always has been one of the best. The problem is the market moves a lot faster than RIM innovation does. I say this as a long time Blackberry user. I still love Blackberries for what they are. I still have one on one of my lines. But at this point I carry an iPhone everyday instead of a BB.
It comes down to this - if you NEED real buttons go with the BB. Otherwise the iPhone outclasses it in every way. |

Let me also add that the BB is a better PHONE than the iphone.
For me to make a call on my iphone, I hit either the home button or the top button to get a screen, then I swipe to open up to my main screen. Then I bring up the phone app and either dial from my favorites, or go to the phonebook or go to the keypad to dial. On the Blackberry you either pull it out of the belt clip or hit the standby button to bring it to the main screen and then just start dialing a number or start spelling a name. The phone interface is much faster and smoother. But that's really the only advantage to the BB. When you consider that the iPhone 4s is now cheaper to buy on a contract than the BB, it's kind of tough to go with the BB. |

Then you must not consider the phone app to be as important as the four apps you have on the dock (bottom row that stays there). Just put the phone app, or whatever you consider mission critical, on the dock. |

You still have to a) hit a button to bring up the lockscreen. b) swipe to unlock the screen c) hit the phone app in the dock. d) select either favorites, keypad or contacts before ever making a call. With the blackberry you a) hit the standby button to unlock b) start dialing or typing in an name directly from the home screen. It's faster and easier. I know because I have them both, |

Your thought process pegs the Nokia 3300 better than the iPhone...does not compute. I went from a Blackberry Bold -great phone- to a BB Torch-worst phone. I then went to an iPhone, loved it until I got my android. Now I'm with an HTC Vivid. Considering BB is going through a managerial change, and now focusing on security software for Android and iPhones, I don't think BB phones will be around much longer as independents. Their software and power was always good until the iPhone started really blowing everything else away, and now Android levels the playing field pretty evenly. Given the two, iPhone, hands down. |

The iphone is the better device as a whole, unless you require a qwerty keypad. |
