i know this thread will probably end up with various man up type comments but I need some help with a work issue

I have been a technician for a biomedical company for 2 years.  My supervisor is transfering to a larger account and they are looking at me to replace her.  Lately all the stress trying to wrap my head around the duties for that position has been driving me crazy.  I am VERY good at the job that I do.  From my position to hers is skipping 3 promotions.  I guess they see the ability in me, but my gut instinct is telling me that I am not ready for a supervisor role.   Please help guys, I don't know what to do.  I would be going from ~15 an hour to salary unknown.  I am married and the money would definitely help, but I am beginning to wonder if I should pump the breaks a little bit.

I'd bet the leadership in your company is like the leadership in thousands of other businesses. They won't recommend a person for a supervisory position unless they though he/she could bring value to the position. Go for it.

Take solace in the fact that most supervisors are barely winging it themselves.   Go for it.  Man-up!

Go with it. A 2nd lieutenant doesn't know shit, and they put him in charge of a platoon of American soldiers.

Rely on your subordinate's experience. but use common sense. Make sure they are competent.

All it takes to do most jobs is common sense, a good work ethic and some organizational skills.  Even CEOs are not some magical beings that are trained by jedi masters  to know how to run a company.  You already know what the job entails and there is always a little learning curve.  If you have the qualities listed previously you can do just about any job.

OP, give it your very best effort.  Bust your ass, ask a LOT of questions and try to learn quickly.

Obviously your employer believes you can do it...so maybe you should too.

Do it, someone is fast tracking you.

As soon as you take the position, hook up with a mentor.  You'll be in like Flint.

When in doubt, do it. Standing still is failure.

This!  In the past 9 months I went from being the 2nd shift supervisor of a shipping dept with 10 direct reports to managing the entire DC.  2 supervisors report to me and about 35 employees indirectly report to me.  I went from making sure important orders made cut off times to reviewing contracts and SOX compliance.

Go for it!  I doubted my abilities at first because I was replacing an expert.  My boss never had a doubt..........  My gun fund has increased as well
