| Does a paid membership make the search function suck less? Because I can't ever find anything now. I'm mostly here for the technical forums and I hate to post new topics that have been covered in previous threads. |

I don't recall any major changes in the actual function of a search though. You have to make sure you change the time frame that your searching in though, that helps a lot. I usually open it up to 30 days at least, that will result in a few posts. Otherwise I agree, the search feature here sucks and rarely result in finding much. |

But you can search General discussion, there are less adds and you get an avatar so people will know who you are, somewhat.

I don't know how far back the searches can go, but really the only thing you can't search is General, maybe just GD? Is it 30 days for members? Either way, just search what you can, and make a thread asking the question. Some will be assholes about it and some will give you what you need, regardless of the amount of times that same question has been asked. Most folks here are pretty decent. YMMV. Eta, it is only 30 days. |

Thanks, I may consider a paid membership anyway, since I'm here all the time and info from this site has helped me tremendously several times. However it sounds like search will suck either way. Also I've found If I just do a google search for something, I often get a result with a link to a thread on ar15.com that I can't find using search on here. Go figure.

Take some time and learn the search options. It was pretty frustrating for me too. I hate joining a new forum and not being able to find answers myself by searching, but here they seem to love just archiving it and letting things flow. Search the archives too.
Membership is cheap, relatively. I haven't paid for other forums in a while but ponied up here. Just like I pony up for NRA. It's a huge community and worth it. |
