I'm thinking one of the Asus ones or a Motorla Xoom...

Looks like Android is here to stay and it's cheaper....
Also has provision USB and flash cards...

I do have the Iphone though and I love it...so the IPad is tempting...

Your thoughts?

I am getting the asus transformer prime which is supposed to be the  best tablet  even compared to the  ipad.  The Ipad apps are  more plentiful however the major apps are all ported to android already.  Android is open architecture and I think the app market will quickly supplant the ipad.  However I do not think you can go wrong with either.

I just got a 4s month or so ago.
I'm exchanging best buy gift plus some gift cards to get a ipad2.
took the apple bait hook line and sinker
may as well keep'em consistant and seems like less potential hassle to sync them up with each other but truely I know nor care to know much about it.
I just want them to work together with minimal effort on my part

Thus far the iPad has a better feel to the hardware and interface.  I love Android, Open Source and the ability to do what I want with the device but the iPad was free and works very well for what I've been using it for.

Just bought the Wife an Asus transformer, (could not wait for the prime) it

seems to function well and she is very happy with it. Bought the keyboard

also. USB ports, card slot and android market are big pluses over the ipad.

If you like your iPhone, just get the iPad and be done with it.  You'll already know the interface, be able to share purchases across platforms where appropriate, etc.

I would suggest holding off until the iPad 3 is released in sometime in 1H 2012.  But you could always sell your iPad 2 at that time.

I have to vote Apple.

I download an app on one of my Apple devices...it is loaded onto all of them automatically via Icloud.

it just works.

I see a LOT of Droid users out there switching......the pro of open source is also a con.

How much do those apps cost? Many are very free for me and i can back up my apps

on google and install them on new devices with ease. Everyone I know jail breaks

their apples. There must be a reason they do this. Apple is not all it is cracked up to be.

I think I have paid for exactly ONE app on Apple.

All my travel, news, airline flight, maps, weather, music, Restaurants, radio & tv, languages, calculators, politics, shooting, etc have been free.

I love the fact that if I travel...my apps / documents / music / contacts automatically sync from my iphone to my ipad to my ipod....

life is easy

ps..none of my apples are jailbroken

What I see is people jailbreak, then give up because apple patches the hole every tiny release (shit, sometimes that's the point of the release).  It's better we just give in and let big brother decide.  That's the better choice than having like two apps in the google market that are malicious.

I'm glad apple finally fixed mobileme (and then gave it a new name).  But it's not revolutionary, google has had all of that for some time now.

IIf you don't want to fiddle with it, then just get an iPad. It'll work basically like your iPhone (which you see
happy enough with).  The poster that said the open-source nature of android is both good and bad is spot on; you can potentially do more on Android, but doing some normal stuff is easier on iPad.

I have an Acer Iconia A500.  Rooted, flashed a custom ROM, etc. and I'm pretty happy with it.  It's not quite as refined or responsive as an iPad, but for half the price (on sale) I think its a good substitute.  I think an android device is a hard sell at the same $500 price as an iPad.

What are you looking to do with the tablet?

There are more OS and product choices than just Android and iOS. If you're looking for a real computer in slate/tablet form, neither of your choices are ideal. On the other hand, if all you're looking for is a media consumption/presentation device with the additional ability to check/send email the occasional email and monitor/update social media sites, then I suggest you go with the iPad for compatibility with your current systems.

Wife got me an ipad2 32gig couple weeks ago.  I didn't think I'd like it but it has grown on me. I'm finding it useful for work too, and my daughter plays a bunch of free games on it.

My son ordered the transformer prime at the same time. Delivery was12/19 then moved to sometime late January now.
Eventually when he gets it we can compare both side by side.

I'd recommend the iPad.

It has the best combination of software and hardware, features and applications.  While there are a few Android tablets that truly are in the same class as the iPad (from a hardware quality level), you'll end up spending just as much as an iPad, so you might as well just get the iPad. Apps are abundant, and more importantly, really good apps are abundant.

With Android tablets, the quality (and user experience) varies widely, from cheaply made junk and a lot of mediocre tablets, to a very few high-end units that have their stuff together.  But the user experience still varies.  I helped a relative get a Sony-S tablet set up over the holidays.  Some apps worked well, others just didn't.  The fact that the Android OS gets put on everything from "free" junk phones to heavily customized eReaders means that the developer of an app is always trying to hit a collection of moving targets, and often just has to settle for the lowest common denominator.  This is basically a non-issue with the iPad as Apple (the software maker) makes the hardware, and Apple has focused a lot of attention on getting developers to build apps that have a consistent UI and versions of apps that work perfectly on the iPad.

Now this isn't to say that all is perfect with the iPad. It has it's quirks.  Apple's philosophy of controlling the user experience means that someone who wants to customize everything will either have to deal with it or move on.  The iPad also uses adapters (that you have to buy if you want) to interact with SD cards (from cameras) or HDMI cables.  Most Android tablets have an SD card slot of some sort (full size or microSD) and possibly some sort of HDMI (again fullsize or more often, micro sized HDMI).

I actually like the Samsung GS2 a lot, and if I were advising a friend/family member on which phone to buy, the GS2 is certainly near the top of the list. But tablets are a different story on the Android front.

Next year, maybe Andriod tablets will be there.
This year, IMHO not so much.
