Looking for one for my wife.  I'd like an HD camera that provides a good, stable picture.  Not one of those cheesy handheld deals that are like a cell phone, but one that has a more stable and traditional video camera feel.

$500ish is my price point.

Although a bit below your price point ($300), I just picked up a Canon Vixia R20 that I'm pretty happy with. My only complaint is filming in low/no light levels is pretty poor, but I guess that is to be expected.

My price point is variable.  I don't really want to go over it.  However, define "low light".  Will it film well indoors at night with lights on?

My guess is its primary use will be filming the kids, and posting them to facebook.

Oh, yeah.  For sure.  I guess I'm just used to camera's with flashes.

I bought mine for pretty much the same reason - filming my newborn and sending vids to family.  It works flawlessly and I'm happy with it.  Perhaps head over to Cnet and read some reviews?  The only issue over there is they're pretty well biased to higher ed cameras - like $1000.

I bought mine at Sams Club, and read the reviews there and Amazon and made the choice.  I'm happy.  If I want to shoot better video, I can use my DSLR with a larger sensor, but this little camera can shoot pretty darn good video given the proper lighting and distance.
