Is there an app or setting that will allow call filtering?  I work nights and need a simple way to filter out audible rings/vibrations from calls/texts from anyone EXCEPT work/wife/babysitter. I still need those to ring for emergencies.  The easier to turn on/off the better.  I've searched the app store for "call filter" and "call blocker" with no luck.  Thanks!

YES.  I didn't even realize how badly I need this.

Don't even need an app.  Just assign a different ringtone to anyone you wish, including no ring at all but just a vibrate.

I have a blackberry now and it has "bedside mode" which allows you to do this and it saves my sanity.  its the blackberry's only redeeming feature.  if it can't be done on an iphone, it's a deal breaker for me and i'll have to look at something else when i replace my BB, which is a shame.

Am i missing something or do you mean every morning when i go to bed i'd have to change the ringtone for 95% of my contacts, then change them back when i wake up?

I don't know of an app (Android user here), but I doubt there is one.

One thing you could do, but it would be a bit of a PITA...  Get a Google Voice account, and port your cell phone number to it.  You'll then get a new cell number, but your old number will still 'work'.  Only give your new cell number to whoever you actually want to be able to call you.  Then in Google Voice, you can set times when calls will go straight to voicemail.

One of the things I have wished for.  A do not disturb feature that would limit all sounds from emails and alerts except those set to override in the contacts info.

Probably so.  iOS leaves you limited.  In Android, I can use Tasker to change my primary ringtone to whatever I want (nothing/silent if I wanted to) between certain times.  Then it could also set ringtones for individual contacts between the same times.

There is always that switch on the side...  That's one thing I kinda miss about my old iPhone... flipping the switch to put it in silent/vibrate while it was still in my pocket.

Most phones can do that without an app.

I'm sure your iphone can.

I already have a gvoice acct, but I actually work a rotating shift, different shift every week, sometimes different shifts within a week, so preset times wouldn't work for me. I don't think it would be feasible.  I need to be able to turn it on and off from the phone.

not sure if it works for the iphone but the android application "find my droid" can be used for this.  When the phone is in silent mode you can send a text through the find my droid system to make it alert.

GV does have a 'do not disturb' feature that can be turned on/off from the app on the phone.  At least the Android version does.  Perhaps the iPhone version does as well?

yes,  give the baby sitter your work phone number and have them contact you there in case of an emergency

Set your wife/babysitter/whatever to have a loud ringtone. Set your default ringtone to be silence. Every morning, you simply change your default ringtone between silence and audible.

while you're here ...

anyone know if there's a way to filter the call log to show just incoming or outgoing calls and not mingle them together?

Hmmm.  This seems like a doable workaround.  I find it hard to believe that my POS Blackberry has any functional advantage over an iPhone though.

No way to filter for each AFAIK.  But if you have the "ALL" selected at the top then all the outgoing calls have that handset icon with the arrow pointing away for an outgoing call.
