Quoted: Why is it forbidden? I want just to jam the mobile Internet connection in MY House, so the boy get´s some sleep and a natural Rhytm. If it is only jammed in MY house, there should be no Law against it? Hermann I agree, who enforces it? And why is it illegal?

If it is only jammed in MY house, there should be no Law against it? Hermann A faraday cage is legal, and doesn't conjure up externalities in the minds of every cop, congressman and lawyer in the city. |

If it is only jammed in MY house, there should be no Law against it? Hermann It causes interference with devices outside of your home. If you wanted to cover your house in a fine copper mesh, I guess it would be OK. |

Quoted: There is one independently owned movie theatre about an hour away from me. My cell phone has never worked in any of their theaters. I suspect they have a jammer in the place as I've never had that happen in other theaters. I will go out of my way to see a film there as I can't stand cell phones going off and people texting while watching a film. I want one to take to the movie theater. |

I know someone who has a couple and uses them at work. He works in retail and gets people who come up and are blabbing on their phone while he is trying to get information from them. From what he says, with just one pocket sized one, he can block out a 25-30 ft radius around him. Depending on the carrier it will knock them out almost instantly or it will take a few seconds.
I'd love to use one at work, but I don't think the Company would approve....... |

I understand this. However, does the FCC having roving units that can detect a 25-35ft area jammer? |

The FCC fines people for unlicensed use of the airwaves all the time. I don't know for sure if anyone's been hit for a mobile phone jammer specifically, but the fact nobody's been caught (if true) isn't a defense to it. |

You start blocking cell service though and the people around you start asking their cell carriers to investigate the poor service quality then there's a chance you'll draw some unwanted attention. |

Hermann Then maybe you should assert yourself instead of attempting to illegally jam the phone lines? But no, I guess telling him to put away the phone or laptop is harder than jamming it, because he'll never suspect a thing when the internet suddenly stops working at 8:00 every night. |

And why is it illegal? ![]() The FCC enforces it, although I'm not aware of any penalties beyond confiscation of the device to end users. Unless you interfere with someones connections and they call you in, you won't get caught. It's not like they drive around looking for jammers. It's illegal because we all own the RF spectrum, and jamming it prevents others from using it. |

Probably several miles, if they were so inclined. |

I heard of a guy that had some drug dealers living next to him. He supposedly used said device to drop his calls all the time. It got to the point, the drug dealer moved away. Where are people finding these devices? Here |

If it is only jammed in MY house, there should be no Law against it? Hermann I don't think you understand how a jammer works. Jamming works by BLASTING a ton of NOISE out on the frequencies you're jamming. How do you contain that to your house? If you had a jammer in your house and it prevented my cell phone from working in my house, you would definitely be violating my rights. THAT is why they are illegal. |
