I'm going to purchase a Frididaire Pro (FPUS2686LF) so I can get the shiny matching stainless to my frigi pro range.

My mind is 99% made up, but online reviews are limited.  Can anyone change my mind before I make a mistake?  (the range was suggested by multiple appliance companies, who wanted to sell me a fridge a couple thousand out of my budget ).

Kitchenaide, stay away from whirlpool and fridigaire.

+1 on the extended warranty, well worth it.

Good luck.

Frigidaires have more problems than most manufacturers, but their problems are usually easily fixed. That is unless you get one of those french door models with the finger I/M's. Samsung makes the biggest pieces of SHIT that I have ever had the displeasure of working on, they make GE look like Geniuses.

Kitchenaide and Whirlpool are the the same thing. Its like saying you like GMC trucks but dislike Chevy trucks.

Frigidaire, made by the best $1.00 a hour third world hires money can buy.

One notch above GE and that is not saying much.

You'd stand a much smaller chance of hating your fridge in 2 years (and being on a first-name basis with the repair man) if you got a Whirlpool instead.

A couple different appliance stores said that Frigidaire/electrolux revamped their fridges in 2010 and are considerably more reliable.

They talked me out of the Samsung (which was actually more than the Frigi I was looking at anyway), and suggested the Frigidaire FPUS2698LF or Whirlpool GSS26C4XXY.  They didn't have the Whirlpool in stock to show me though, so I'll have to find one somewhere to look at it.

I know you guys are also making suggestions, but this thread isn't helping.  Buy this one...no, that ones junk.  And it repeats, which has been my luck while searching for a fridge, especially with online reviews.  My frigi pro range was a general consensus that it works very well and there isn't much anything near it's price.  Refrigerators are quite obviously a different story all together, as are the next item after the fridge, the dishwasher (which will probably be a Bosch).

It's pretty obvious that appliances are NOT the same across the board, so I'm looking for specifically suggestions on refrigerators I guess.    Thanks for your replies so far.

So which refrigerator should I be looking for?  Needs to be stainless steel, side by side, ice maker/water dispenser, roughly 26cf or bigger.  I have a 70" high, 36" wide, 30" deep cabinet, which most fridges that are roughly 36" deep overall (with handles) fit in nicely as the actual fridge cabinet is usually just below 30".  Under $2000 is the current budget, but if something is that much better, it's negotiable.

GE has the highest rated appliances according to my research.  The stainless is just cheap skins over the faces, I think it looks cheesy on close inspection.

I just bought a new GE glass top stove and will be replacing it all one piece at a time.  I prefer NO fancy extra shit.

Side by side fridges won't fit a pizza horizontally.  My ice machine is breakage prone.  My water dispenser leaks and the internal the filter makes my perfect RO water taste weird.  The slide out bottom freezers are a pain in the ass.  The new fridge I am looking at will have none of that crap, ice cube trays I am intelligent enough to handle, water is a high volume pitcher in the fridge.  Standard freezer top, fridge below, no stupid frills.

I am going all black, no stainless.

For whats its worth, I recently replace all of my 1961 model GE appliances with brand new Maytag stuff. The GE was still going strong for being made in 1961.

Yes but the 1961 corporate GE, is not today's corporate GE.

Not by a long shot.

my fridge is 2.5 yrs old already quit, had to add r-134 to it.   dish washer is a piece of shit too.  the cheaper roper brand worked better.  unfortunatly my deep freezer is also frigidair, bought it before i started having trouble with the other stuff.

I hope I don't regret it, but it really wasn't my choice anyway.  I wanted side by side.

http://www.refrigerator-reviews-ratings.com/rfg298hdrs.html

Lowes had it on sale for $1600, and $140 for a 4 year extended warranty after the 1 year manufacturers.  Free delivery, free moving my old fridge, etc.

It's really just sad how bad appliances are these days, too many damn gadgets.   My current (white) maytag is only 2 years old, so we'll see which one lasts longer I guess.  Thanks for the replies, but even after I did the research and relayed the advice, it doesn't matter.

If they just added 134a and didn't fix the leak you will be calling them back because it will leak back out.

Keep that extended warranty because you will more than likely have to use it. The worst part is that Samsung can't even get the correct part #s for their appliances parts.

They sell  more of them than others too.  Sears guy told me to stay away from Kenmore because of all the problems they have  (but did try telling me I needed the $5k pro).  sears selection is pretty much only Kenmore.

I don't get why all fridges suck, I really don't.  My customers all use sub and Viking, yet always complain about them too, especially the Viking refrigerators.

I would personally buy Whirlpool, Kitchenaid, Maytag or 106 model Kenmore's. Bells and whistles are your enemy, the more things that can go wrong means the more things that will.

Whirlpool makes all three of them though, correct?

If they didn't come in the odd height of 67" or whatever, one of the whirlpool french doors would have been a go.

That's silly.

Sears sells fridges manufactured by a variety of different companies, including Whirlpool, GE, Panasonic, LG, Bosch, Electrolux, and Mabe Mexico - all under the "Kenmore" brand.

It was a sears guy...on a holiday weekend probably seasonal help.

So it really comes down to exact model number of a refrigerator and you can't depend on the name brand at all.  That's pretty much what I'm coming up with.

The Kenmore fridges that are built by XX company look exactly the same as the fridges that XX company has on its own website.

Suggestion: Pick a manufacturer with a good reputation, check their website for a few good prospects, and then check the Sears website for identical-looking Kenmore models.
