Chesterfield, Town & Country, Ballwin, Wildwood, etc. Lots of nice areas, with great school districts, out in West County. You don't have to go all the way past the river to St. Charles. +1 My vote is for Kirkwood, Ballwin, Manchester, or Des Peres. Really just depends on how far you want to drive and how much $$$ you want to spend. ETA: You want the Parkway or Rockwood school districts. |

If you want to be closer to downtown, then the Central West End - right around the medical school - can be very nice, and right by Forest Park.
But, the problem with that area is that if you go two blocks in the wrong direction, you can quickly be in a shitty part of town. So it's not for everyone. For the record, I've lived in: Webster Groves - liked it Richmond Heights - OK, but got my car stereo stolen Ballwin - really liked it Manchester - really liked it Creve Coeur - really liked it Wildwood - loved it! |

Why did you love Wildwood so much. |

Ellisville, ballwin, manchester, chesterfield, Arnold (although a bit Hoosier is soco). Ellisvile was rated in the top 5 a couple of years ago for top 100 places to raise a family. Lived here all my life and love it. By the time you hit Arnold, you're starting to get into Meth country. Ballwin is nice, but I have relatives there, so I'd avoid it. Chesterfield is very nice. |

Why did you love Wildwood so much. I was right on the edge of Ellisville (close to the intersection of Clarkson & Manchester), so it was actually a pretty quick commute down to Wash U. - this was before Hwy 40 went totally to hell, and all the construction. And I loved that I was close to everything, incl shopping, several giant Dierberg's stores, home Depot, vet, fire department, and all sorts of conveniences - yet I could jump on my road bike and leave my front door and be riding on empty rural roads and horse farms (out by St. Albans, or by Babler State Park) within 10 minutes. For me, it was the perfect blend being being in the burbs, and being on the edge of rural. Plus, I loved the neighborhood. Often, my neighbors and I wouldn't lock our door or cars, and everyone knew each other. If I needed something (like eggs or sugar), I could literally walk into their house and take it. Good times. |

From what I've seen of the area when I visited last year, I took a real liking to Affton(near where Grant's Farm is.) It's in South County, so it's a nice older area with nice older homes.
My brother in law's brother lives in St. Peters, but that's again, in St. Charles County. I've heard that Ferguson has a nice historic downtown area. |

St. Charles was nice. There's a lot of old timey tourist type crap in the old section if you're into that. St.Peters, etc is good too. Chesterfield is nice too, but it got absolutely fucked in '93. Yep, water almost up to the mall. I'd say somewhere in West County: Manchester, Ballwin, Chesterfield (not in the valley), creve cour, Des Peres, etc. |

That's where the Bentley / Ferrari / Lambo dealer is, along with a thousand other stores. |

Easy to forget seeing the planes at the airport floating around in the water in 93. |

Easy to forget seeing the planes at the airport floating around in the water in 93. We used to go to Rahmbachs (SP?) down there to pick pumpkins in the fall. The airport used to be about it down there besides the kids little league fields over by the river levee. It sure has changed alot. Hope they got the levees upgraded cause the Missouri will flood again, just a matter of time/rain. Brentwood is a nice place to live, so close to 64/40 and 71 plus Manchester for shorter trips, the Brentwood elementary schools were really great when I was there. Kids walked to school (I did) and there was a small town feel to it. Carl's (burger joint) on Manchester Rd is near Brentwood Blvd is my favorite place to eat in STL. Homemade rootbeer and double cheese burgers made to order right in front of you |

I agree with all of these. Very nice locations. Stay away from Florissant, Hazelwood, Normandy, Baden, Berkely, Feguson basically stay away from anything from 370 on east down 70. |
| Here's a tip that works in every city. Find out where Martin Luther King boulevard/street is located and stay as far away from it as possible. It's kind of ironic that a street named for a man who promoted non violence is always put in the most violent part of a city. |
| I live in unincorporated St. Charles county. Lower taxes but a longer commute. I work downtown now. If you leave early you can get downtown in 40-45 minutes. Leave anytime after 7:15 and add 30 minutes. Mostly you just want to be outside the 270 loop and more west or south. North county outside the 270 loop is iffy in places. Cost of living here is one of the lowest in the nation for the size city it is. |

As others have said. Chesterfield and Ladue are very nice, but $$$. St Charles is a city and a county. Anywhere in St Charles county is nice. The southern part of St Charles county is more rural with 3 acre zoning if you want to get some land. There are places you can live and be on highway 40 (I 64) in a few minutes. Just FYI when CCW first started in MO. St. Louis City and County did not want to issue permits and St Charles did, just fyi.
It would help if you had a budget in mind, some of the areas suggested are nice, but are a bit more pricier. I moved here 6 years ago and have been through alot of relocation. If you have any questions PM me, I would be happy to talk to you. BTW the HTF is quite active and the guys are very helpful. |

Webster Groves / Brentwood area is nice. I've lived here for years. Trends a little liberal though... Whoa! I spent alot of my life in Brentwood! (Lived on Brentwood Pl that is near the Mobil station) I live over the near South Brentwood and Marshall intersection, right next to Webster Groves. It's a nice area. Not quite Ladue or Frontiac nice, but damn nice for as close to the city as it is (I work on the Landing). |

Eureka/wildwood. Best school district in the state. Nearly zero crime. Close enough to the city to jump on 44 and be downtown in 20 minutes. Reasonable taxes. And a very nice shooting range run by the MO Dept. of Conservation close by, and the best bbq in the world (Super Smokers) |
