[ARCHIVED THREAD] - The Soviet Union (Page 1 of 4)

| First off, I'm not a communist by any means but I find myself admiring the Soviets/Russians. I think Putin is a pretty cool guy (quick question: Who'd you rather have, Vladimir or Obama?). Anybody else feel this way? |

Quoted:
Yeah, that ex-KGB thug seems like such a swell fella.
I'd rather have an incompetent socialist in charge, than one who knows what he's actually doing. This. I'd hate to see where we'd be if Obama actually knew what the fuck he was doing. Obama has had some victories, but has managed to engineer his own downfall in 2.5 years. Putin would die in office. |

Anybody else feel this way? Dude, Obama is not going to be president forever, just because the Ruskies have a president who skydives naked, dates supermodels and has the heads of his political enemies AND every big game animal in Russia on the wall of his rec room doesn't mean that Russia is the new U.S.A. Putin is going to be president of Russia until HE decides its time to go. The American people will tell Obama when to go. I think I'd take the latter rather than the former.

Obama has had some victories, but has managed to engineer his own downfall in 2.5 years. Putin would die in office. Putin would smile at any comparison to Obama. Putin is the real deal. Obama is a child next to him and Putin would eat his liver for breakfast. I think Russia is interesting in a way born out of a respect for a capable foe and a long tragic history. I would not want Putin as a leader. Obama would be like Putin if he were experienced and capable enough. The vitriol is there and the hatred for our Republic is there. But Obama is not himself a killer. He would order others to do his killing but he himself is not a killer. Putin is. ETA: Fuck the commies here and there. |

Are you saying you can't be interested in a group of people, without supporting their ideas? Shit I think vlad the impaler was an interesting character but.... I dont think the OP admires communism. He meant the anthems, flags, huge military parades, propaganda, etc. Its pretty fascinating. |

I am talking about the people who think that being interested in a nation/culture means you want to be like that culture. |

BTW, in Soviet Russia there is only one accepted way to sing the anthem and if a celebrity tries to put their own little spin on it, they will be dealt with accordingly. |
