Well, the wife is pissed that the bulb on our 56" Toshiba DLP HDTV blew out. The bulb did last over 4 years. I need to find a TV that's around 56", 1080P, less than $1000, and it can be either plasma or LCD. Free shipping and no sales tax would be good too. |

Quoted: Can u just replace the bulb in your tv, or is there something else wrong? vmax84 I could. But the wife doesn't want to deal with bulbs anymore. She's been wanting to upgrade to a plasma or LCD for a few years now. She'd rather us put the $150 for a new bulb towards a new TV. |

Quoted: Slickdeals is awesome and they have everything under the sun there, but check Amazon for a bulb. I would think the bulbs are a lot cheaper than 150 bucks. Hang tough until black friday if you're gonna get a different tv. Good luck. vmax84 Found the bulb I need on amazon. Very mixed reviews. 1/2 of them blowing up in 5 mins to 2 days. Other 1/2 going strong for under a year. Around $83 too. |

I just think it deserves some consideration, if you've determined it's simply the bulb, to why throw the tv out when all it needs is a bulb swap. Find a good bulb source, change it, and have little money into it vs a new tv. Just my 2 cents. vmax84 |

The factory bulb I need is $150+. The price I mentioned above is for the aftermarket bulb. The wife also said that I could put the 56" Toshiba in my man cave too. ![]() Right now, I'm leaning more towards the factory bulb, since I'm a cheap bastard. |

I was gonna say just replace lamp. But if she is wanting to buy a new LCD/Plasma I would go that route. I like the Panasonic Plasmas or Samsung LCD/LED. I'm assuming plasmas are good in dimly lit rooms? I have two windows and french doors in my TV room. Yes you assumed right with the glass used in a plasma screen it makes them better for dark rooms. Look at my edited post about the bezel size. My Samsung DLP has a thin bezel. Something that caught my eye with the new Samsung LEDs. However, they might be out of the $1000 price range since they are the newest models. |

DO NOT OVERLOOK the open box section of Sam's Club! I just bought a display model 55" Samsung LED 3D 6 series smart TV there for $800 I was so freaking geeked I started a thread about it ![]() http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1244968_I_just_picked_up_a_3D_TV___Holy_Crap_what_have_I_been_missing__.html Speed |

I've had very good luck with Best Buy's DYNEX brand. A 46" LCD cost me $500 + tax + the $99 extended warranty a year ago. If you have good eyes and are a "videophile", it's quite possible you'd notice all sorts of things wrong with it and spend more for a Samsung or Toshiba. If you just want to watch TV, then it's a heck of a deal IMO. |

Quoted: Do you have a Fry's there? Picked up a 55" LG under 1k. Not a single issue. I believe there's one in Atlanta, which is 90 miles away. Only have Walmart, Sears, and Kmart in town. There is a local electronics/appliance store, but I've heard his prices are jacked up. Best Buy is 40 miles away too. |

Do some online research for what you're looking for; print out Amazon pages and simply tell the manager/owner whatever that if they can match this price you'll buy it, otherwise you will order online They can only say yes or no (after trying to sell you something else that is )Speed |

More likely the issues come from people not using proper care when installing the bulb. If you touch the bulb and get oils from your fingers, hand, nose, nuts on the bulb then it will blow out in short order. A clean room is not necessary, but wearing a pair of disposable cotton gloves would be a good idea. A pair that has not been used for anything else and that you don't rub on your nuts before using. |

No need to touch the bulb. ![]() My fan is now toast too. |
Go with one of Panasonic or Samsung's 1080p plasmas. The only TV you can get which is better is a Sharp Elite and those start off at $6,000. Best to stick with the Plasma. ![]() The Panasonic plasmas are better with moving images and have better blacks and the Samsungs have amazingly accurate color.

The Panasonic plasmas are nice. Sure do put out heat vs LCD though. Using the Toshiba 40" LCD, from the bedroom, in the TV room for now. Hate to say it, but the picture is better than the DLP. Leaning towards a Sharp LED now. The sales person kept pitching a $200 calibration that's the tits for the plasma. This really turned me off on the plasmas. |

You don't need to drop 200 bucks for calibration. Salesmen push that because most of their profit is in selling customers things they don't need. You calibrate a TV yourself and can do more or less the same kind of job they were trying to sell you. This is particularly true with the new Samsungs. The people who have been reviewing them have been amazed by the ease and accuracy of calibration for stuff like color. The Panasonic offerings are almost perfect out of the box and don't require much calibration. Oh and please please please avoid the Sharp Aquos TVs. They added that yellow pixel to fool the consumer because bright colors more easily manipulate people in a store. What you don't see when you are in a store is how poor their contrast and color reproduction is. Other brands such as Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, LG, ect ect make a much better LED or LCD TV than the Sharp Aquos. The only kind of Sharp television which is actually good is the Sharp Elite I was telling you about. The Elite was designed by the engineers who made the legendary Pioneer Kuro televisions from a few years ago. I was absolutely blown away by the Elite when I sat down and watched some of The Dark Knight on one. I'm a plasma fanboy and even I had to admit that the Elite is the best TV I have ever seen and totally worth the 6-8 thousand dollars they sell for. If I was loaded, that is what I would buy. ![]() |
