What is the AR15.com of Mustangs?

I am looking to purchase a 2002-2005 Mustang.

Like to see what to look out for and what mods are out there for them.

yup, www.svtperformance.com is one of the largest.  I used to spend a lot of time on www.corral.net which was HUGE back in the fox body days, but I haven't been there in years.  SVTP is where I spend most of my internet time (when I'm not on ARFCOM of course).

Just so you know though, 1999-2004 was the "new edge" body style and the 2005-2009 is the S197 body style (retro look).  The 2010 to present is still the S197 chassis, but with significant body and interior changes.  I only mention that because you have 2002 to 2005 and that covers to differnet body styles.

I am trying to stay in the 5k range for the 02-04 and a little more for the 2005.

I added the the 05 just to see if I could get lucky on that body style.

If youre wanting a GT v8 car,5k wont get you much.

Staying with a V6

ETA you can find a stock GT for 5K around here if you look long enough.

Shit 5k probably won't even get you a decent new edge V6 and 05 GTs are stil over $15k.

I spent a lot of time on The Mustang Source forums before I ended up with a jeep. It's a good board, but not as fixated on modding as Corral.net, or SVT Performance.

I'll agree with the SVTPerformance recommendation others have posted. I used to post there quite a bit when I had my Cobra's

Trust me when I say you don't want a V6, its a turd, the GT will get better mileage than the V6(or both mine did anyways) you will be much much happier with the car

Corral.net is probably the largest Mustang site. SVTP is decent. If you're looking for V6 mustang tech, v6power.net is about as good as it gets. 3.8mustang gets a lot more traffic, but the signal to noise ratio there kind of sucks.
While not a mustang site per se, if your interested in road racing, corner-carvers.com has some awesome mustang suspension tech, but lurk there a while before posting, they run a very tight ship there.

I'll agree that the 3.8 V6 is a turd out of the box, but they do have decent potential and there is a sizable aftermarket for them. There are several street-legal, full interior, daily driven 94-04 V6 mustangs running 9 sec quarter miles. (and cheaper insurance is always a plus)

If gas milage is the reason your going with a V6, I agree with the rest.  I have had A LOT of Mustangs and everything that I've owned from 2000 and up has been more ecconomical than my I6 Jeeps and even better than my wife's 07 Acura RDX, 08 MDX and now her 11 GMC Acadia.  My last car was a 10 second 03 Cobra and when I drove it civily, I was able to avg 20+ MPG.  That was a 600 rear wheel horse power car with 60# fuel injectors and twin oversived fuel pumps.  My current Stang is a 2010 Shelby GT500 and on highway trips it averages around 22 MPG (15-17 in the city) with numerous mods.  That's a Supercharged 5.4 liter...

A 4.6 SOHC GT should have no problem getting 20+ MPG if you take it easy on the loud pedal and leave it relatively stock.  Your decision, but the V6 available in the Mustang (up until the 2011 which is a beast of a V6) has never been known for its efficiency or power.

V-6's are good for saving a little on fuel, and insurance.

My 2000 GT auto with 120k miles gets 22 mpg on the highway if I cruise control is on and I keep my foot out of it. Its pretty much stock except for exhaust and a hand held tuner. Back and forth to work mixed town/city it averages 15-18 depending on how I drive it.

Im expecting my mpg to take a shit here sometime when I get the 410 gears and 3800 stall converter installed that I have sitting here

26.6 miles to the gallon for my 2011 GT with long tube headers, hi flow cats, intake and tune
for a 500 mile trip at 70.
My 08 GT 500 would do about 20 fro the same trip.

See if you can get into a 99 cobra, prices have come down almost a sickening amount since the 03/04. Much improved over a gt and mine still got 26 mpg with 4.30 gears

moddedmustangs i a petty good source.
My 07 GT is mostly stock, with Rousch Exhaust, CAI, and tune, 3.31 gears gets me 24 mpg on my daily commute, averaging 37mph. On a road trip, averaging 64mph between tanks I can get 28.5 mpg.
Cruise Control is your friend. The V6 your looking for is nothing more than a boat anchor.

Stangnet.com is a good source, in addition to the others already mentioned.

Oh, and please get a V8 car. If you don't, there's a pretty good chance that you will soon wish you had.

You'll be hard pressed to find a SN-95 Mustang for $5k, unless you're going hard-top, automatic and V6.

Get a GT, they're a lot more fun... cheap to buy, cheap to mod, and relatively hard to break... unless you run one at 140MPH for 5 minutes and starve the block for oil, that kills them kinda fast. Ask me how I know.
