I need to get in shape. My wife has cancer. and I need to be there for her. So what vitamins do I need. What does the hive has to say about vitamins?
Started eating better earlier this summer before we found out about the cancer.. We were swimming until it became to much for her. I have lost about 2-3 inches off the waist. I added 2 more holes in the belt to take up the slack. So I am headed in the write direction I just need to do it better and make sure I have the energy to get things done. |

Sorry to hear about your wifes ailment. My condolences. Your ordeal will be stressful. B vitamins will be important. They are water soluble however so you should err on the high side of dosage. My wife and myself take a sublinqual B mix that is up there in dosage. The brand is "Now Foods". Google that for a start. And remember, sudden use of a lot of vitamins is not the the answer. It's staying suffcient in all vitamins over time that is healthful. |

Quoted: I'd be curious to see some actual research showing if there's any benefit to taking a vitamin If you are not deficient in one and eat well it's probably not needed. If you lack a certain vitamin, a supplement is probably a good idea. I like to pound the B's because I take Prilosec for acid reflux and that's known to cause a vitamin B deficiency. |

B complex vitamins also make your urine bright green, which is just awesome. Pew, pew!
They can also help to prevent/cure hangovers (along with plenty of fluids) and they're good for digestive health. But, really, whatever your body doesn't need, you'll just pee it right back out. As long as you eat a relatively good diet, a multivitamin once a week is more than enough. |

A good multivitamin and a daily Omega-3 (fish oil) will help a lot. There are several other natural, beneficial supplements out there that can reverse a lot of health problems. Now Foods & NSI from Vitacost, are the best brands I've found. If you drink, taking Silymarin (Milk Thistle) will significantly improve the health of your liver. |

Quoted: I already take fish oil. I think the Vitamin B will be next. I be getting a physical soon and the Dr said he will be checking to see if I am lacking anything. I thought I see what yo guys thought. Careful with b vitamins. Some of them like B6 can cause nerve damage if taken in large amounts... they can also jack up your kidneys if you don't drink tons of water every day. |

There is no real benefit to taking vitamins other than to avoid deficiency. That said, most people don't eat a well balanced diet. A good quality one a day is sufficient.
Then you can focus on reducing heavily processed foods and trying to eat fresh food. Lots of veg. - should be colorful - greens, reds, yellows. Avoid white and brown. No added sugar. Prayers for the wife. |

Quoted: Since stress seems to be the name of the game right now I picked up a bottle of B complex vitamins. Having acid reflux as well this may kill two birds with one shot. Maybe some Vitamin D latter. I work the night shift. ![]() Yeah, you're not getting enough vitamin d. |
|
Quoted: Vitamin D. Most people don't spend nearly enough time in the sun. Vitamin C. The foods that are very high in C are rarely eaten. Rose hips, anyone? Most people don't get nearly enough. Zinc. The link I posted has rose hips for 105% Vitamin C dv. The stuff doesn't taste very good, but every friend of mine that has managed to down a glass has bought a jar. |

Go easy with them, recent research indicates people take way too many vitamins.
Take one with 100% RDA and you are OK but the old "if some is good more is better" mentality seems to take over for most people. If you take more than 100% in a day ( this includes what you eat too) at best you will excrete the excess, at worst it can cause health issues. You are better served by eating a balanced diet, there is more to food than just it's vitamin content! |

Tastes like shit, but you can live on it. I'm on a Metegenics multi. I take a fairly low dose just to be sure I am not deficient. |

L-Arginine L-Carnitine Sublingual B-12 Fish oil Saw palmetto Flush free niacin Zinc, calcium, magnesium Are you taking that to try to prevent the body from producing VLDL and LDL? I don't take Niacin or Saw Palmetto, but I'd add 400 mg of CO Q10 to that list too, along with 1500 to 2000 mg of C if you can tolerate it.(Can upset stomach) I started taking it as advised by two docs before surgery to minimize scarring,(no scars at all, so I kept taking it) now I heal in days, like I did when I was a kid. Apparently causes faster collagen production. |

LIke others have said Vitamin D should be at the top of your list. When it comes to fish oil I no longer bother with the capsules and instead buy the lemon flavored liquid in a bottle. Absolutely no fish taste or smell and the bottle lasts a long time. Vitamin C doesn't hurt and magnesium is a must for me. The rest I get from my diet except I sometimes make a shake with a good protein isolate and/or egg white protein. Depends what's in my cabinet at the moment.
