Title 36, U.S.C., Chapter 10 says it's just fine...
§ 176. Respect for flag: No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor. (a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property. |

I think we can get too carried away with the Boy Scout flag rules sometimes, this is a powerful message that an american is furious and discouraged with the state of the nation. I admit I wouldn't do it but who knows what his situation is like. They are not "Boy Scout flag rules". |

Hanging the flag upside down is not disrespectful it is a distress signal. It's a flag people. A symbol. Not a deity, not living thing...a flag. |
