I plan on buying a new car in the near future. it will be a nice weather weekend only car and modified. in the landlord tradition the car will appear to be as stock as possible.
my question to our law enforcement memebers is im considering getting peronalized plates. i've heard from many people that this will make me a "target" to the police. i was wondering, does this assumption ring true? or are my friends and family just paranoid? (i dont belive any of them have ever had a peronalized vanity plate). |

The only time your plates come into play is when they finally get you slowed down enough to look at them. What are you buying? right now its between a kia forte sx koup (doubt ill get that though), a nissan sentra se-r spec v (been a nissan guy my whole life love a modified b chassis), but im really leaning towards a (hate to say it) scion TC. the scion just feels "right" if you know what i mean. once broken in i plan on going forced induction around 8-10psi to get around 300 - 350hp. not incredably fast but fun. what i really want is a new turbo regal, but gm wont finance me (ex wife trashed my credit) and every one else wants an unrealistic apr. toyota is offering me 3% less than everyone else. and the car just seems solid to me. much like a spec v, only with 20 less hp and about $5000 less. i plan on hitting up some scca rally cross events, havent done those in years since my 200sx has turned into mostly iron oxide. thanks for the heads up on the plates guys. |

I was expecting a 70 Chevelle SS with a blown 502, but a 4 banger hitting 10 grand will catch my eye faster than muscle. Especially if the plate says NOS. Just stereotyping here. |
| A long time ago I learned an important lesson: If LEO wants you pulled over, they're gonna pull you over. Bling, personalized plates, exhaust system, or stock won't matter if they want you pulled over. I think it depends a lot more on your driving than the plates. I also know that if you're 4 teens cruising around on a Friday night at 1 am you stand a good chance of being the target of someone fishing. It is what it is. Dont give them a reason to pull you over, and don't be a dick when they do. |

Just stereotyping here. ive never been much for straight line racing. and i now never race on the street. seen too many bad things happen in my youth. the occasional hard pull on an on ramp maybe, but other than that i like to keep it on the track. in my mid 20's i raced a neon srt4 that ended up with him wrapping himself around a tree and put his girl friend in the hospital for a long time. she still isnt right. after that i said never again. hard lesson learned. i do thank a police officer for my insistance on seat belts though. he said at the speed i liked to drive (again in my youth) that he was pissed that i didnt wear a seat belt. not because he feared my safety, but because he didnt want to look for my body parts scattered over a quarter mile. i appreciated his honesty and i understood i've worn a seatbelt ever since. my father was into big horse power and taught me everything he knows. he still curses my love of the little import 4 bangers. what he doesnt know is that without him i would have never gotten into the sport compacts. i know, cool story bro. |

Well, if you want to turn and accelerate, I would recommend not getting an FWD car. Get another older Z, a 02-03 wrx or something like that if you like imports and auto cross. Both can be had for pretty cheap, and have a bunch of after market support. ETA: if you want forced induction, get the WRX. It comes turbo, aka it will be cheaper/easier to get where you want it. |
