I'm looking to go away for the weekend with a couple friends over the weekend of my birthday in late November. I'm near DC and don't want to drive any more than 4-5 hours...
So where to? Philly, Atlantic City, Nags Head? |

We're looking to do prob all of the above in some capacity. Probably looking for a quiet night Friday then a little drinking Saturday night.
Even though I live close I've never been to Philly. Only thing is a major winter storm would ruin the fun since we don't get many down here. |

Not sure what you mean by quiet night but if you want to go party, I agree with the guy who said hop on Amtrak and get to NYC. Philly's last call is 0200 so they will start kicking people out around 0130. Not sure about NYC but last call is a lot later, and the nightlife is a lot more diverse and vibrant. Don't get me wrong, I like Philadelphia (as much as a small town boy can like big cities) but unless you like dealing with clones of the cast from The Jersey Shore at the nightclubs on Delaware Avenue or the hipsters from Manayunk (we call them Yunkers) the various gastropubs in Old City, you are probably better off going to New York. Because if your goal is to get blasted, you won't want to end the night so early! If your goal is not just to get wasted, Philly does have a lot to offer. Let me know what you consider a "quiet evening" and I'll give you some pointers as to sights to see. Philly has some good tourist spots and some historic military sights as well (e.g. USS Olympia, the last surviving warship from the Spanish American War). Also let me know what types of bars/clubs you frequent; I'm not up on the club scene but I do know a bit about the bar scene. Philly has a lot of gastropubs and if you like places with lots of craft beer you have come to the right place (although no place was as diverse as the Brickskellar in DC). |
