[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Flu shot time (Page 1 of 3)

| Just about that time to get flu shots. Who here is getting theirs? |

Quoted: Why would you go through all that effort? My employer pushes it really, really hard. Not a snowball's chance in hell I'm taking it. They told us they're considering making the refusers wear a surgical mask at all times when we're on the property. I told them to buy a lot of mask. |

He has every right to choose what he injects into his body. |

Military has no choice, so yes, I'll be getting one. I would anyway; it's cheap insurance against getting the flu at the wrong time...like my wife did when we were on vacation this year. I'll never understand the irrational fear of vaccines that have been proven tens of millions of times. I've been vaccinated for everything except Anthrax, and that's only because I've not been forced yet. Yes, that is the only one that they'd have to force me to, and that's mainly because it's a pain in the ass and not the same as the veterinarians get. Oh, and I do mean everything except Anthrax; I've even been vaccinated against the bloody plague! |

He has every right to choose what he injects into his body. Because they're the gestapo and I refuse to comply just because they promise to make it difficult for me. Also, I genuinely don't want a flu shot but if I did, I'd get it somewhere else and then make them buy the boxes and boxes of surgical masks for me anyway. I'd do it just for the principle. |

Quoted: True, just wondering. It's safe, effective and free. Why avoid it at all costs?Quoted: Quoted: Why would you go through all that effort? My employer pushes it really, really hard. He has every right to choose what he injects into his body. People have a right to do a lot of stuff, but I have the right to think it's strange or not the right decision to do or not do that action. Let's put it this way: In a world where everyone made the correct and rational decision, we wouldn't even be having this conversation. Everyone that could benefit from a vaccine would go out and get it, especially if it was offered at no cost to the end user and available at a location they go to all the time. But in this world, people often make the irrational choice and decide not to take the effort to get one, or even take all measures to ensure they don't get one. I wouldn't say I'm all for mandatory vaccinations, but I can see why one could make an argument for them. |

It's safe, effective and free. Why avoid it at all costs? Why I choose not to get a flu shot: Vaccines are tested for long periods of time to ensure efficacy and safety. All vaccines, that is, except for the season flu shot.
I do not want barely tested and rushed-through-approval medications in my body. I work with an infectious diseases doctor and he won't get one for the same reason. As always, I am not advising anyone to not take a flu shot. Speak with your healthy provider. I am not a doctor. Poop. Why I choose to be an asshole about it: They are strongarming people and that just rubs me very, very wrong.
I think they should offer flu shots. I think they should explain why they believe flu shots are beneficial (herd immunity being a primary goal). I do not think they should attempt to force anyone to do anything, and that is exactly what they are doing. It's kind of like when a boss forces everyone to "voluntarily" donate to the United Way or else there will be hell to pay. I'll be the one guy in a thousand who will take the hell. I can't stand it one damn bit. |

The flu vaccine has been around since the 1930s and has proven to work and has proven it's safety record. Yes, it's a different strain each year, but the manufacturing process and ingredients hasn't changed much (flu-mist is the exception to that) It's not the same every year. It changes every year. The vaccine is rushed through testing, approval, and manufacturing. It's more important to get the product out each year than it is to be sure that it's something you really want to put in your body. |

Just an FYI to anyone considering getting the shot or flu mist. First, I'm not an immunologist, so if I get some of the proper terms wrong, forgive me. This much I know from asking. The flu shot is not a live culture vaccine, and has not been since about 1995. Prior to that, it was. And I always got sick from the vaccine. Since, been just fine. The Flu-mist is a live culture vaccine, and therefore, does have the potential for giving some minor (their words) side effects of the flu. My wife has multiple auto-immune problems, so I ensure that I get the shot every year, just to be safe. |

Quoted: It's still manufactured the same way with the same ingredients. A particular strain of virus is grown in eggs. It's a different strain, but the vaccine is still manufactured with the same stuff each year. It is still a different and rushed medication every year. Those who get it are guinea pigs. I don't want it. Additionally, vaccines are weakly associated with Guillain-Barre. It's not that a vaccine directly causes it but that a person's immune system is triggered by the vaccine and then attacks the body. Having taken care of a couple patients with Guillain-Barre, I am a bit wary of vaccines in general. Some, I take. In my profession, Hep B is a great vaccine. The small risk of the vaccination is well worth it. A yearly, rushed flu shot? Nope. |
|
I think most people would be better off just getting their Vitamin D levels up. That has shown to massively reduce your chances of getting the flu. The flu shot really doesn't help at all. Maybe 1% improvement or something like that.
Look it up and don't believe anything anybody tells you. Do your own research. |

It really makes you wonder why "they" are pushing it so hard, doesn't it? I noticed that all of the pharmacies in town have had "flu shots available here" signs up all summer here in Florida. It used to be that they only had them up during flu season. I wonder why? |
