Well WTF.

Last night im looking for a gif to post in a thread.  I opened a site that seemed to be harmless.  Well as soon as I opened it, my screen went black and flashed and came back up.  Most of my icons are gone, my background picture is gone and things are running sllllooooowww.  I knew immediately that I picked up something nasty.  I put the computer into safe mode and ran Rkill twice and Malwarebytes 2 times.  All 4 times I picked up some nasty shit and got rid of it.

My icons have not come back and my desktop is still black.  Can you guys help me (again) here.

Mike

Use the system restore to roll back to last known safe save point.

I never have this problem. But I stay away from tranny porn sites also. You might try this.

If you're one of those people who have a hard time keeping a computer clean, you may want to purchase a malwarebytes license so it can proactively monitor the system and save you from yourself.

Tranny porn gets me every time.  Its just something about girl on girl and then BAM suprise..wiener

This is the third time I have picked something up and only one time has been from porn. In fact, it was Britney Spears snatch pictures.

if you seem to be "missing" shortcuts and such, you might have to go through and unhide alot of files and folders.  I've seen some viruses and such lately that cause everything to blank out by hiding the majority of your primary files.  doing a system restore to a known good date wouldnt automatically fix it either

Something I would try is downloading Superantispyware portable, then reboot into safe mode and run it.

Another would be (if you have enough RAM) to boot from a Mint/Ubuntu etc live CD, install and update Clam AV and the GUI for Clam, and run a full scan with it.

Once again.  Thanks guys.  I restored it to a few days ago and it seems to have fixed the problem.  Now back to tranny porn.

Microsoft (yes, that Microsoft) has a great FREE service to back up MS Security Essentials.
It is FANTASTIC,  they will get rid of anything on your computer using a variety of tools.
I don't have the 800# at hand but I found it through Google.

Linux,  I run Linux as my main OS then run MS Windows in
virtual machines for programs that Must be run under windows.

(I have some expensive CAD/CAM software that requires Windows).

It has turned out to be the perfect solution

You may well still have malware active on the machine.

I would still suggest running some scans.

Ok man, I'll help you out.

Run something like Avast or Kaspersky and see if that gets rid of the virus.  Also, you might want to pick up Spybot S&D (great free anti-spyware program).

If none of that works, you may want to consider reformatting your hard drive, that is if you can't get rid of the virus through AV software.

For the future, I advise that you use Firefox, and download a plugin called noscript.  What NoScript does is it disables all the scripts running on any random site, and then you have to manually enable the scripts that you feel would do what you need.  This goes a long way in preventing viruses from being loaded into your computer from the internet.  That said, you may also just want to be careful about what sites to visit on the internet.....
