I am often surprised when someone says they don't eat onions.  One of my wife's friends - a young woman of Italian descent - even goes so far as to not put onions in her marinara sauce.

In the fried rice thread, someone said they'd eat it if the OP cancelled the onions.  WTF, over?  Fried rice without onions is simply crazy talk.

I can understand a kid not liking raw onions.  I might even be able to comprehend an adult not liking raw onions.  But hating onions to the point that you'll pick them out of fried rice (or even decline the dish because it was cooked with onions) seems like insanity.

How about you?

Red Onion Marmalade.

It is my personal Crack, Heroin, and Meth, all rolled into one delicious jarred product.

I've known a couple people who were like that with tomatoes as well.  Even to the point of not eating ketchup or marinara sauce either.

Myself, I like a flavor explosion in my food.

I have an onion intolerance...

I like onions, but they don't like me....

They make my tummy hurt...

Onions are part of the holy trinity. Anyone who doesn't like them is a heretic.

I'm not much on raw tomatoes.  I can eat a slice on a burger or something, but that's about it.

I love them cooked, in just about any way you can imagine.

Yup. I love garlic so much I will often eat a small piece raw when I'm chopping it.

Love 'em cooked.  Hate 'em raw.

Caramelized onions are pure love from God.  And gas from God too.

I try to avoid them if they are raw.  I do like them cooked.

Raw or cooked. I really like raw onions on sandwiches and burgers.
9/9/2011 10:35:15 AM EDT

Cooked of course, and raw when part of something. I couldn't eat a raw onion by itself.

Hated them growing up.  Now I love them.  I'll only eat raw on a sandwich or something like that. But I love them cooked in just about everything.

The best one that I have had was bought at the Thatchers Cider shop, along with some funky cheese and Pickled Onions. Oh, and of course Cider.

I cannot recall the name of the brand right now, but all of the Red Onion Marmalades that I have tried have been great (when in a Panini with meat and cheese, at various pubs and bars). Better than the standard Onion Relish that I find in a lot of shops.

I'll pop back in and post the brand if I can find it again.

I only like onion rings.

Raw, cooked, green, Vidalia sweets, you betcha.  I bet people who think they don't like raw onions would love a slice of raw Vidalia sweet onion on their burger if they'd just try it.  Finely chopped green onions whipped up in scrambled eggs are really good too.

Girlfriend won't go near onions, though.

What you do is you take two pieces of rye bread. Schmear braunschweiger on each piece. Then you take thin sliced red onions and put them on both pieces of bread. Put the pieces together and eat your onion and braunschweiger sammich........mmmmmmmmmgoooood.

That's a weird poll.

I prefer raw onions, cooked ones are kind of gross - Not the taste, the consistency. But I don't put either one in/on everything, they're good but not great. I like a thin slice of raw on a burger, finely diced in many types of cooking, coarsely chopped raw in salsa, etc.

That was me.

I'm just not a big fan of onions. I can't even explain why. I don't know if it's the juice, the texture or what.

It's not the flavor, as I use onion powder where onions are required in my recipes, and I'm fine.

I just can't stand onions. They sickitate me.

Maybe I choked on one as a kid or something.

great flavoring, not my favorite main feature... I put onions in pretty much everything.

I mostly prefer cooked to raw

I hate biting into them with their crunchy texture when they are raw .

I don't really like raw ones, and I find most people don't cook them properly, so I avoid them in general.

I use them myself, in my own cooking, quite often.

While we were camping last week, I was chopping some onions for use in a big camp stove full of chili.

My 7 month old fucking loves to eat now that he has two teeth to crunch together and he wants to nom on everything.  He reaches his hands out and goes, "OOOMPH!  UUUNNNGH!"

So I popped a piece of diced onion in his mouth.  He gave me a look like and then and then prompty gummed that fucker into oblivion before asking for more.

My baby eats onions.

Some of you people are pussies.

I can't bite into one like an apple, but I do love me some onion. Cooked, raw, sauteed, I don't care. Mo' onion.

Onions are vile.  I accept their use as an ingredient in a cooked food, but avoid them.

Love em, raw, cooked, whatever.

Wrap a peeled onion in tinfoil with a dash of BBQ sauce, throw it in the campfire

Sauteed in olive oil with a teaspoon of brown sugar

diced in a salad, sliced on a sandwich, chopped in Mexican, sprinkled on chili

The list goes on..........

Someone here turned me onto the Walla Walla a few years ago, hard to find on the east coast, but amazing

Slice them up and sprinkle salt or some Alpine Touch.

Keeps the skeeters from biting.

Ok, I'm willing to entertain the suggestion that I'm the weird one here and that the poll is far more in line with the rest of humanity. It certainly wouldn't be the first time.

Cooked is good in French Onion Soup or Onion Rings, anything else and I want them chopped fine so I can taste them but don't actually have to eat them. Raw onions are also good in/on burritos, bratwurst, but no onions should ever get near a pizza. That's sick and wrong

Don't get me started on mushrooms. Blech!

Vadalias, Texas 1014's, Maui Wowies

Some of the sweetest vegetables you will ever eat.  I eat them like apples.
Sometimes actually TOO sweet...

Shallots, leeks all in the same vein. They're all good

There's not a whole lot I cook that doesn't have an onion in one form or another.  I can not enjoy a good cheeseburger unless it has a big ole slab of onion on top.
