I lost my health insurance when I got divorced and I've been without health insurance for a few months now. I've applied at 3 different insurance companies for basically any type of basic health insurance and was ALWAYS denied.
I got a call from a place called Martin and Associates saying they could sign me up for the "national insurance pool". It sounds really good, almost too good. The price is about double of what the regular insurers quoted me, $300, plus $125 to process the first month. Still, that's cheaper than what I paid when I worked for the federal government with a Cadillac health insurance plan. Anyone know anything about the National High Risk Pool? Or high risk health insurance overall? I've got a lot of people calling me now, offering high risk plans at about the same price. Oh yes, my high risk is high blood pressure and overweight, aggravated by a workmans comp claim about 6 years ago, where I pretty much can't exercise. I mean, I even have to be careful on longs walks. |

Your weight shouldn't be a problem and from what I understand swimming doesn't place a lot of stress on your joints. |

First, stop using the left's stupid terminology, specifically "Cadillac" health care plans. There is no such thing.
Second, there isn't a national high risk insurance pool Each state may or may not have one, but you're in luck because Texas does. I would be leery of some agency calling you up out of the blue offering to sign you up. The state's pool is found here: http://www.txhealthpool.org/ |

I've heard of it existing, and basically my understanding is that people like are put into a special pool, and the costs are paid for with premiums and subsidies from the insurance industry. Probably a tax avoidance deal for them, but you could possible get insurance out of the deal. I would contact them directly versus going through a broker. |

Oh, and there's this: FEDERAL RISK POOL PROGRAM NOTICE It was a Cadillac plan. I worked for the Federal Government. I paid about $800 a month in premiums plus what the government kicked in and it covered EVERYTHING for my whole family. The total bill on the birth of my daughter was $29,000. I think we were out of pocket $400. My ex had several surgeries. All paid 100%. |

I was doing a lot of treadmill and elliptical cardio work. I tried to keep doing those, didn't work. Tried both types of stationary bicycle, same deal. Oh I can peddle them, then I'm in groin pain for the next 3 days. The club I was with at the time didn't have an indoor pool, but if I could find a place to work out my upper body, I could probably do some of it. |

That's what an insurance plan should be. Just like auto insurance, the level of coverage and out-of-pocket deductible can be chosen by premium. Competition and choice is a wonderful thing. |
