Sheesh. How many people are trying to snag the nomination?
My concern is that there will be a repeat of the 2008 primary. There were so many candidates that is spread out the vote pool pretty thin. IIRC, McCain took SC with something like 30% of the votes cast. That means 7 out of 10 people voted for someone other than McCain, then got stuck with him. This gave us the weakest nominee I've seen since Bob Dole. I'd like to see a system like they have for state elections here in SC. If no candidate gets more than 50% of the vote there is a runoff between the two nominees with the highest number of votes. That's how I got to vote for Tim Scott 3 times. I don't see it happening, though. We have a liberal candidate (Romney) and the rest pretty much fall into the conservative camp. If Romney got 30% and the other 70% is spread among the others, Romney gets the nod. A strategy to defeat such a debacle would be for a deal to be made among the conservatives that when the primary gets close they throw their support behind the one highest in the polls. Not very likely. |

If the Dems can put up an outright socialist retard like Shitstain then we need to put up a real conservative, not who is generally decided to be "electable". I'm tired of this shit....... |

I concur, we need to run a real conservative. I'm not sure if you missed my point. Under the current system, an individual that the majority does NOT want (see my McCain example) can get the nomination due to the rest of the candidates splitting the vote too thinly. |

How's this: If you don't volunteer, write letters, and contribute money for your candidate then you're not allowed to complain if he/she doesn't win the nomination. If that is followed, that would get rid of 90% of these posts. If you DO all of the above, then you can complain if your candidate loses. But you should still vote GOP in the general election. Another Obama term is the end of this country as we know it, either directly, or through SCOTUS nominations. That's politics. Grow up, and deal with it.

It would end up being the same if we had (in the future) more than 2 "major" parties. Let's say you had 3 or 4 actually realistic parties running. You could end up with a president who was elected by 30% of the voters (if 4 were running). |

FOX News: The Republican Field, In Order Cliff's notes: The Iowa Caucuses are 22 weeks away and the field shakes out these top four based on polling and fundraising... 1. Rick Perry 2. Mitt Romney 3. Michele Bachmann 4. Ron Paul Other candidates like Gary Johnson, Herman Cain and Buddy Roemer are operating on small budgets that basically fuel their buses. But for Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Jon Huntsman who have larger campaign operations but small donor bases it will be difficult for them to stay on the campaign trail for three months until federal matching funds start in January. |

I'd like to see all the primaries on the same day, like the general election is. This. Another factor is that "Operation Chaos" was being used last time around (the effort to prolong Hillary's run for the nomination and thus deplete overall (D) campaign monies) that kept folks on our side of the aisle from voting for the real candidate they wanted. Lacking such a situation hopefully a better choice can be made than "reach across around" McStain. |
