I have some training and I maintain my weapons well. I have owned LOTS of AR's. My castle nuts are staked because I do appreciate Noveske and LMT and that is what I buy. But I have put thousands of rounds through lots of AR's and I have never had unstaked castle nut cause a problem. I have had extractors break but couldnt tell u if they were MP inspected or not.  I choose to use Noveske and LMT, but besides bolts and mags (even more than bolts) I have rarely seen ARs fail besides user error (heavy users, not 300 round a year people) no matter what the company. I talk to lots of real world users and most had no idea what "castle staking" was. Most didnt know what MP inspection and high pressure testing was. I know lots of real world guys that dont use LMT or Noveske and have never heard of the companies. I know experienced people with Bushmasters. How much forum talk of weapons is reality and how much is; the lonely 230 pound mall cop that likes 1911 because his dad told him too or airsoft commandos doing google searches?

I was buying guns way way before the Internet.
When you had to buy a gun magazine and see it for the first time then buy every mag that had any pics, thoughts, reviews.
Then you had to wait till the were manufactured and one wound up in your local funstore to finger it.

Then you had to buy it decide whether you liked it or not,run thousands of rounds through it to see if it was good or not.

I still do this even with all the Internets..

I've had an unstaked castle nut come loose. Made the buffer tube and stock very wobbly.

I had an unstaked castle nut problem once.  I put loctite on the threads and the problem went away... still unstaked though.

I'm sure lots of end users don't know how to properly heat treat barrels, doesn't mean it's unnecessary or that improper heat treating doesn't cause problems.

Mags, extractors, proper maintenance. That'll do ya well enough for most end users. But that doesn't mean that a designer shouldn't take some simple steps to address possible failure points.

As a former Mall Ninja and current Space Shuttle Door Gunner, I can tell you that you only perform as well in real life as you do on the internet.  You sir would not make it in real life.  And this is coming from 8 years experience on ARFCOM and 20+ years of general tactical badass-ery.
