When flying make sure your wife doesn't pack the only set of car keys in your checked luggage...    They managed to lose al 5 of our bags and our car is currently an expensive paperweight.  Been stuck at or near airport 2 hours from home for a day now waiting on repeated failed attempts by the airlines yo get our bags here. Tell the TSA you saw  a suspicious package being carried by a white Christian grandmother and give them a description of your luggage. They'll find it in 5 minutes.

Amongst other things, I'd hand the parking bill to the airline.

That sucks, don't be too hard on her.

The only time the airlines have ever lost my luggage was after a flight cancellation.  They automaticaly booked me on THEIR next flight, which left the next day.  I told them I wanted ANY flight to CVG, so they finally booked me on a flight that left an hour later non another carrier.  Same with about 5 others from the original flight.  No one got the memo to put the bags on the new flight = 5 people standing anone around a baggage carousel at CVG waiting for our bags.  Jerks!

Then they'll keep for 87 hours, swipe any goodies they find, and maybe return it all messed up in a 40''x40''x40'' cardboard box on a pallet.

No pics... not via my phone anyhow. :)  I was kinda pissed at her at first but she's 30 weeks pregnant so I can't be too hard on her.  I think the worst part was the fire alarm at 6 this morning. Didn't make it to hotel until 3. Boy was I happy

I learned very early in life how easy it is to be stranded because I trusted someone else.

I went to the beach one time minus my suitcase. I "thought" someone else loaded it.

Right.  I've never once flown and thought that it would be a good idea to have my keys anywhere other than on my person.

I always put mine in my carry on, because...

1. They can't be lost this way and...

2. It makes it a tad faster, going through security (no need to empty pockets)

Never had any issues here. I carry my cell phone, keys, wallet+contents, etc... Stuff like that, including other irreplaceable stuff like a laptop, music, etc... never went into a checked bag.

If my checked bags got lost forever, the most I'd be out was stuff life clothes, toiletries, etc... easily replaceable and might even get my money back if I had insurance. My grandpa used to travel for Ford a lot, and he would never take anything but the bare essentials, underclothes, toiletries, and the suit he wore. He said if he needed anything else, he could buy it.

Regarding carry-ons –– is the TSA still confiscating "switchblade" style keys?

It was a general rhetoric statement.
