I leave for Russia for basically the rest of the year. Such a weird feeling. Any last minute advice you more experienced travelers might have for me?
I've never even flown before. |

Watch out for pick pockets and avoid the police. They will rob you blind. I spent two weeks in St peteburg in 2004 it is a lot of fun. Baltika Beer is very good. |

I assume your company is sending you there Depending on where you are going and what job you will be doing try not to dress up much. Dress like a lowly worker. Don't take or wear any jewelry. My friend went there 4 years ago and was in 4 different areas training airports on equipment they bought from his company. He was questioned many times about his role in the company. At dinner a few times guys would come in and sit accross from him and just watch him. His envoy told him they were not good people and he should tell them if they ask that he was just a peon worker for the company. Evening meals are always accompanied with alcohol. In Moscow, many people, even high up American Counterparts only live in a meager 1000 SF apartment flats The women are drop dead beautiful and dress to the nines. if you fly around inside the country from area to area, well, just know that the airplanes they use, sometimes are what we used here 30 years ago. |

You are in for quite an education. Don't let the unknown freak you out. I spent nine days in Moscow several years ago. Most of the young people I met spoke at least some English. Have fun! |

| I just got back from a visit to St. Petersburg. Interesting place, lots of interesting historical things to see. We hired a tour guide, and while she was showing us around, she told us all about life in Russia. There are something like 6 women to every man there, and they're DESPERATE to get married. She said that the men there are all worthless drunks, so they're just looking for nice, normal guys, but there's a lot of competition! The girls were dressed to the nines, so get ready to see some hotties! Unfortunately the comments about them not aging well are true. It's a rough life over there. |
