We are looking at replacing our dying Dell computer & have been thinking about getting an apple desktop, how good are they?

I had a Dell desktop and a Lenova laptop prior to my lmac. I had a few issues from time to time, but nothing to troublesome.

I bought my Imac a few years ago, love it. I have never had one issue with it.

I think it depends on what you want to do and get out of it. I take a lot of photo's, download music, watch movies, it's perfect.

I have a Ipad and Iphone as well, no issues there either.

I don't like the all in one trend but they make good stuff.

As always, I suggest you build your own bloat free PC.

They're excellent. There are a good number of us Mac users here. Ask us anything.

I recently converted my wife from a lifetime of PC usage. She got a Mac Mini and couldn't be happier.

Don't listen to the hate that this thread will have in it. They are good computers. I love my Mac. 2+ years with mine and it still runs great.

I have a PC for gaming.

Everything else is done on an iMac and MPB.

As with all of these threads, those who own them will suggest you get one and those who do not will suggest you don't.

I suggest you go to Best Buy or somewhere else you can play with one and decide for yourself.

Unless you're really into PC gaming (and since you're looking at a Mac I'm guessing you're not). Then I don't see much point in buy a desktop computer anymore.

I picked up a year old Mac-Mini in the EE and absolutely f'ing love it. It replaced my 4550 Dell. I installed Parallels 6 and Win 7 on it and I can run my CAD/CAM software (dongle protected I might add) side by side with the Mac OS. I can cut & paste & share files in Win & OS X. (Parallels will let you run Linux as a virtual machine as well so you can jump between all 3 OS's without re-booting). It cleaned up my desk and did away with the cable umbilical, it's totally quiet. Best part is most of your Win programs like Firefox, MS Office etc. come in a Mac version. Boots lightning fast, web browser screams, videos run smooth as silk.  Don't think I'll ever go back to a PC, Apple is light years ahead in so many ways. If you want an idea, watch the developers conference video it's long but it will give you an impressive insight into Apple's way of thinking. http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/11piubpwiqubf06/event/

like the idea of interfacing the iphone with the computer and access computer from phone, don't play many games on the computer, but do have a few old ones.

will be for high school for the boys, don't really want a laptop, but one we can leave in the house, do banking/bills and such along with surfing the web.

have no idea how to build a computer, not into that.
