skurrd? I just like being prepared. Kinda like everyone on ARFCOM stock ammo, I've got enough gear to equip a team of about 4 with armor, vests, pouches, etc. Only now do I realize I'm screwed anyway because I only have like 1.5k rounds of 5.56. |

doesnt that shit have a shelf life of like 5 years? The warranty of most manufactures is 5 years. If forces Depts to buy new armor every 5 years of face a possible lawsuit for sending LEOs out with "expired" armor. If you care for it by keeping it dry, flat, and out of the sun kevlar should not break down. |

This and it's service life not shelf, kevlar stored under proper conditions degrades at a very slow rate. |

I was wearing my rilfe plates the day my boat sank, carrying my rifles quickly to the bottom of the black abyss of the St Johns river... The PC was too heavy and I couldn't swim... so I had to quickly ditch it..... it sunk to the bottom with the rifles and all my mags & ammo.... |

Nothing wrong with having a set or two of each (soft and hard armor).
But I'd expect their utility will be on the very looooong odds just short of "never" for the average joe. Think about "why would I be roaming around the streets if SHTF?" combined with the weight and limited mobility combined with all of that other shit you'd want to carry in the same scenarios.... Training, food and paying off debt would be a more effective investment. Naturally, you may need plates for said training - at which point it becomes simply another training tool. With that said, I have a set or two I picked up cheap just because. |

Some of the kevlar armor is Manu:1988 and it stopped 2 shot from a .40cal pistol. Probably would have stopped more but I missed the 3rd shot I took I get my stuff here and there. Alot of it came from ebay, some from friends, and some from random EE type deals. Also, it would add alot of weight to your gear but we(Marines) train with this stuff at every oppurtunity so you get used to it pretty quick. I'm looking to get rid of some if anybody is interested

If I think it's stolen, I don't get it. Most of the plates are only 'similar' to what we're issued. The only reason I have it in the first place is to make sure my little brother and ole lady have some sort of protection in case of SHTF from zombies, looters, and trigger happy ARFCOMers. |

Where do you normally buy your armor? I wouldn't mind having a set, just in case. SKD Tactical just ran a group buy on some great Level 4 rifle plates. There is also Bulletproofme.com. I see armor as going hand in hand with a weapon. Back in the day a man had ARMOR as well as his sword. |

I obtained some stuff for a class that never happened. Packed carefully away is a very concealable IIIA vest from one of Gall's unbelievable closeouts. Sizing marked way, way wrong - my XL fits like a M, poor side coverage due to the cut. But it's very thin & light. Along with that are a plate carrier with Lvl III front, back, side plates with backers behind the side plates to make up for the soft armor gaps.

This is where you lost me, along with many others. "Stockpiling" can be fun. But stockpiling body armor is usually last on peoples' lists. If you haven't already, take a 2 day class. Then come back and let us know which one you will run out of first in the real world- ammo, or bodu armor. |

Yeah, I've got armor for myself and family. I was once in a situation where I had the time to put on armor and the real need to wear armor, and didn't have any. Now I do.
I don't know why so many people blow off owning armor as stupid, if you have more than three decent guns or so with lights and enough ammo, armor is the next logical home defense equipment purchase. All you need is an extra 15 seconds or so to don it and you greatly increase your survival chances in a gunfight. I've seen mail order and private seller soft armor for as little as $75, and if I can buy it absolutely no questions asked, so can shitbags. |

I originally bought it with the intention of selling it to some of the guys I work with but they never came through so I just got stuck with it. I decided to hang on to it and here I am. But I do realize ammo is a bigger priority vs body armor which is why I'm trying to get rid of most of it. |

I have my own set with side plates. (armor)
I have my own ghillie suit. I have more than 1000 rounds of everything I own except 30.06... that is hard to slip by the wife. I have (at two beers a day) four months of beer stockpiled. home brew with the ABV of each brew above 9.0% I rotate the stock...about two beers a day...
I have one annoying wife who wants to know what all the rice and beans are for. I have three awesome children. The claymore mines are not currently attached to the exterior doors... |

I wonder, is it possible to boil rice and beans in beer and have it turn out not-disgusting? Are you serious about the claymores? If so, you should totally send me blueprints and 'how to'. |
