| What is the R value of an 8" concrete block wall sheathed in vinyl siding on one side and painted on the other? |
| That type of construction is fairly common around here. The insulation properties seem to be slightly better than hollow wood walls with no insulation, but not much better. Of course around here people are idiots when it comes to insulation, the majority of homes built prior to the mid eighties have no insulation at all under the floors, and R11 in the attic and walls. Of course our winters aren't that bad, so the heating bills aren't a big deal, but it is hot as hell in the summer, and these fools don't understand why it costs so much to keep the AC set at 68 when it is 102 out. Of course it works out well for me, I spend a fair amount of time crawling around under the houses, and the homes with no insulation under the floors have nice cool crawlspaces. |
