For the most part it's as crappy as our big 3 here in the states. Molson was bought out by InBev a few yrs ago I believe so it's got more in common with Bud than flavor and body. Canada is going through a micro-brew growth like we did 10 or so yrs ago, many of the better micro-brews are available in the cities. Many Canadians claim their beer is better than ours, (Molson vs Bud,) but in honesty that's like arguing over who has the ugliest wife.
You will find Leffe on tap in many places in/around Toronto and Calgary which surprised me as it's not so common down this way. Leffe is the Belgian equivilent to Bud from a output and distribution point of view but it's sooooooooo much better. YMMV....Oh and I haven't actually seen beer in bags in all my travels up there but some claim it exists. |

This is correct. everything else in this thread does not compare. |

It's expensive! They tax the shit out of it. A 6 pack of labatts in Vancouver is more expensive than a 12 pack in Anchorage. Think the fact that AK has far and away the highest tax rates on alcohol in the country has anything to do with it? Don't forget Freight either. |

It has to be because of taxes. |

Interesting story along those lines, I had some employees in town for a big project recently and one guy is from the Calgary area. We happened to be in grocery store picking up some snacks for the team as they were working long hours and couldn't always break for a food run. This employee of mine happen to notice a bottle of red wine (Yellow-Tail Cab,) was a little over $6 at the store but back home he pays almost $18 CAD for the same bottle. In fact Canadian Mist Whiskey, (which he's fond of) was nearly double the cost back home. Later we're all sitting around talking about cost of living between Canada and the US, the genera conclusion he made was that the cost of social programs while high all "washed out in the end." I didn't push the issue as I'm his boss and it wasn't appropriate but I think deep down he saw the problems of an expensive social state. |

LaBatt Blue was my weapon of choice back when I was a practicing alcoholic. Moosehead is damn fine too. It's mostly 5.6 content there, so mind the intake. I've not had Moosehead in years, but I remember it being terrible. Did the antlers hurt your thighs? |
