If you have to ask you are going to end up with a crap job, but the right way to do that is to mud lightly, cover with paper tape, then let dry, then mud with feathering, then sand lightly, then final coat and sand very lightly to blend.
If you use fiberglass mesh tape you will have to feather two feet in every direction to get it to look <half way> decent. That sucks––both in time/effort, and even in the final result.
