Taking out a closet and shelving system in one of the bedrooms in my house and ending up with a pile up to my knees of particle board.

I can use this for the fireplace right?  Or is the glue used to make it going to kill me and my family?

You will die. That and I burned some out in the yard and it did not burn worth a damn. Took other wood piled up on it to finally make it disappear.

Its nothing but compressed sawdust and lots of glue. No way I'd burn it, if you can get it to burn.

Agreed. WOn't burn worth a shit. Throw it away so you won't have to look at it any longer than you have to. I hate the stuff personally.

If its 3/4", you can make speaker boxes out of it. 1/2" works, but flexes too much, imho. And if you know anybody who's into loud car stereos, they might come & take it if you offer it to them.

Particle board is the sh*t that didn't get extruded into Presto Logs.

In Presto Logs, the binding agent (wax?) is flammable and I don't think it releases harmful gases.

I can't say that about the formaldehyde used in particle board's binding agent.

Burn it outside.  The glue is probablt toxic and will cause problems with your chimney.
