They're staffing them at lower levels because of the budget crunch so....
Here comes my renewal of registration for my motorhome in the mail today. Postmarked as mailed on July 6, 2011. Fees due July 2, 2011 and it's already an extra $25 as it's late. And it has to be smogged. UPDATE. see later post..... |

OK, I spoke too soon. There was a Special Notice, ( i assumed it was a Special Olympics donation solicitation)/
They passed LEGISLATION on May 4, 2011. They now do not send them 60 days in advance (how does that save money???) but allow you a 30 day grace period from the due date. LE will not cite your vehicle until Sept if you tags say July. Interesting how they spend their time in the legislature. Just stupid. |

Especially since most people have no fucking clue how much registration is going to be year to year, nor do they know when or where (test only vs regular shop) they have to get smogged. It usually takes me every bit of that 60 days (and about $1k) to get one of my trucks to pass smog (multiple retests, repairs and the like). All that for a truck I drive less then 1,500 a year. Bet they wind up collecting a couple million in late fees, citations for expired registration and court/impound fees with this simple change. Not to mention get a few "planet killing" older cars off the road. Working exactly as intended. |
