I don't think this is a dupe.

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP)— A Winston-Salem man was sentenced Tuesday to at least 26 years in prison for the attempted murder of a Guilford County sheriff's deputy in 2009.

This is all routine until about 4:16. Then it goes bad quickly.

Video and story

After the shooting incident, Smith was sentenced to remain in federal
custody on the bank robbery charges until he is 85. After his release
from federal custody, Smith will then begin serving the time from
Tuesday's attempted murder sentencing.

Not enough lead slung at that POS.

Needed more "head shot" there when the BG raised his head and took a few more pop shots.

Would have saved us a lot of good tax payer money instead of keeping this POS locked up for decades

The big man was watching out for that officer for sure.

Suspect needs more led.

The Deputy showed a hell of a lot of restraint. Good man there!!

Good shoot! Glad the officer is alright too.

That would be pretty scary out by yourself at 4AM in the dark!!

Damn! These types of videos always get my adrenaline going.

Fuck that guy, wish he would have got a few more in him but I am glad the officer was able to not only avoide being shot but return effective fire.

Great Shoot. That officer handled the entire stop and shooting extremely well. I wish that assholes life would have been ended though.

SO...Where's all the assholes on here that think LEOs profile people for no reason?
THIS is why police officers have DUI checkpoints.
THIS is why police officers lawfully ask for ID when you're walking alone at 3am.
THIS is why police officers need ID from everyone in the vehicle you're in.

I could go on and on. I get so sick of the anti LEO bullshit on this website.

Even a polite man as this guy was at the first of the video can be a killer. Without profiling, checkpoints, random stops, ID checks etc people like this would never be found. Anyone who has a problem with the way police operate should have to live with or next to dangerous people like this. Dont like the cops?...Call a felon the next time you need help.

There, now if every cop was like that...there wouldn't be any anti-cop threads on ARFCOM.

Good shoot sir, good shoot!

I don't think everyone on this site hates or bashes LE. I think that because LEO's hold that much power when they do mess up everyone comes down on them harder than the average Joe.

LE has a very tough job and 90% of the population couldn't handle what they have to go through. That being said most people hold them to a higher standard and rightfully so. They have earned it in my opinion, not all.... but most of them.

There are bad seeds in every demographic out there, when LE goes off the end its scrutinized more so than most and you hear about it more than the average Joe messing up.

I guess he handled that as well as you can handle a gun fight on your own in the middle of nowhere... Man, good on you Officer!

That had to be the longest five or so minutes of his life waiting for backup...

That is some serious police work right there.

Glad he never took a round, suspect needed more rounds, kudos to the cop for the restraint he had.

Yep maybe he has a 1/4 second draw or something.

I suppose he could have used the flashlight to distract the guy somehow before the draw. I wonder if there's more info on how he did it.

That deputy is a consummate professional. Right up until the shooting started, he could have been giving an "Officer Friendly" presentation at a grade school. I didn't count the shots fired, but I'm thinking that 5 hits represents a pretty good ratio. I thank God the officer is OK, and thank the officer for his service. I hope that the thug has suffered and will continue to suffer greatly.

Nice debate we have here. Use your stick and bang on the ground three times if you are mad.

I noticed that as well. Even watching on video it seemed as if I could have read War and Peace from the time things turned ugly until the first backup arrived. I can only imagine how long it must have seemed to the deputy.

Many of the posts you are griping about are motivated by the mud that rude, power-mad, and otherwise oppressive badge-wearing jackasses splash on real policemen like Deputy Mecham.

Story stated he got the drop on the officer, the officer reacted by backing up and fell down, before the officer could shoot the B/G shot at him twice while he was down but missed both times. Lucky!

When my buddy got in a shootout at work the DA's office and the ADA handling the case didn't even bother to pursue an attempted murder charge because, in her words, "It's not like you got wounded or anything"

Following your logic, we should be demanding door to door searches of every house in America.  If it results in finding people like him, it's reasonable, right?
