When I was at Fort Benning, I have seen other branches going through the Air Borne school.

So it is possible.

Best I've got is a Marine who switched to be an Air Force combat controller. Don't know why a person couldn't switch but will definetly watch and see if I'm wrong.

Can ya think of any airborne questions I can ask this guy????

Going to Airborne School as a Marine is pretty common. What kind of tattoo was it?

If he's skinny and goofy looking with a obese wife/girlfriend, he might just be a real Marine. That sort of thing isn't as uncommon as we'd like to think.

Jump School is a pretty open book with the internet.  No secret questions you could really ask.  Could try to ask him his class number.  Should be a two digit class number followed by a two digit year designation (mine = 14-84 for example)

The only Marines that get to go to jump school on a regular basis are Recon, ANGLICO, some riggers/loadmasters/airwing types, and back in the day, some Marines that were on Barracks Duty in Annapolis.  Why?  The Academy would get slots for the midshipmen, and when they couldn't go, the Marines got to backfill.  We had a few Marines actually re-enlist for jump school, but this was back in the 80's.

We did have a former Army 82nd Airborne type in our unit (Weapons Company 1/8). Total POS.  His jump status didn't go over too well

Recon has jump billets as well as MARSOC
CI/HUMINT
RRP
and ANGLICO
also have jump billets

it is also a reenlistment incentive

Yeap - my father was a Navy officer and was ANGLICO and had his jump wings.

I'm an "Airborne" Jarhead (Ret.)

2 tours with ANGLICO.

We worked on a regular basis with the 82nd and though I never jumped with them I've got friends who have.  Mostly into JRTC

There's Marine Black Hats at jump school.

Ask him who the grand old man of the Marine Corps is.

He could also be in the same boat as a good friend of mine: he was 0331 and did a tour in IZ.  Came back, finished his bachelors, got out of the Corps at E-3, and is now back in IZ flying a Kiowa Warrior in the Army as a CW2 (I think).

Ask him to point out his "fourth point of contact" to you.

Ask him what comes after the command "Check Equipment".

Well, I would question why a Marine would get a tatoo of Army jump wings.

Unless he was in both, which is possible. But if he claims just USMC service, having Army wings for his tatoo would be a giveaway.

Could be a Cherry 0451 or some shit who ran right out and got his basic wings inked on him as soon as graduated Benning.

Not necessarily. Guys in the USN and USMC wear the standard wings until they get 10 jumps. Then they wear the gold wings, IIRC.

Im sure one of our local squids or jarheads can confirm.

Yeah Marines wear Basic Jumps until they meet the requirements to wear USN/USMC Master Parachutist Wings i.e Gold Wings.

There were other branches at Benning when I was there.  A guy in my platoon was a Chaplain's Assistant and he was headed to jump school after infantry school.

The Corps has some Airborne units. Does he have a tattoo of Army or USMC jump wings?  No self-respecting Marine would tattoo Army jump wings on himself if he had the chance to earn USMC jump wings.

Just confront him directly and ask to see his military ID card.

What are the five points of contact? What is a PLF? Ask him to demonstrate a proper Parachute Landing Fall.

Marines consider that the "five jump chump" wings. Marines with 10 jumps get a much cooler tattoo that kinda look like flight wings.

If he's not met the requirements to wear the Navy/Marine Corps Parachute Insignia (gold wings) then he would wear the standard Basic Parachutist Insignia.
(5 additional jumps for a total of 10 while serving in a bonafide jump billet for a minimum of 90 days with some specific criteria for the jumps I.e. Combat equipment, night etc.)

There's probably more Marines with lead sleds then gold wings.

I had all kinds of Former Army Airborne guys in my units.

There are multiple options for this to happen, not really a big deal...

Need more than that to confirm if he is in fact posing.

5 jump chumps that thought they were "Sky Gods".  Also a couple of guys that were prior service Army jumpers.
