Bought one on Thursday.  I've been hemming and hawing about tablets replacing the laptop for recrational surfing etc, and my wife's Xoom finally got me to bite the bullet.  My local Walmart had Acer tablets, which seem to be spec'd out about the same as the Xoom, with the addition of a USB port that the Xoom lacks.

It quit working Friday.  Less than 24 hours  At least Walmart had a 15 day no questions asked refund policy on it.  I think I'm going to wait a bit longer to get into the tablet game.

I ordered a HP Touchpad on Friday, I should get it on Tuesday because I'm a big fan of WebOS. Early reviews has alluded to some software glitches on WebOS 3.0 which is troubling but I've read where HP ran out of time to optimize programs on Froyo due to the 1 yr anniversary of HP buying Palm. That said, for what I'm planning on using the Touchpad (web browsing and Kindle,) I'm not too concerned as both those aspects work well.

I've played with the Xoom and Galaxy Tab and while the hardware is nice, Honeycomb is just too fractured. Unfortunately for Honeycomb there's less than 200 optimized apps and some software glitches are in same cases worse than WebOS' 3.0 early reports.Since you said your wife has a Xoom now, you might want to stick with one of those or an iPad.

6 mos could be a telling time for all the platforms to either succeed or die off.
