I just got stopped at a Roanoke City Revenue Generation Center (police roadblock) on my way home from work. As we all know, it's a way for the police to conduct fishing expeditions and raise money for the city under the guise of "public safety".
Seeing that I was on a scooter, Cop #1 was smart enough to realize I don't need a license and waved me through. Unfortunately, Cop #2 wasn't as smart and stopped me 15 feet later. I told her Cop #1 had just waved me through since I don't need a license to operate a scooter and she said, "That's OK, I just want to see who's driving through. Can I see some ID?" While looking at my license, she glanced up and asked my if my scooter was stolen. I gave her a WTF look and said, "Of course it's not stolen. Do you ask everyone you stop if their vehicle is stolen?" She ignored me, gave me back my license, and waved me on. God damn it. Here it is, Fourth of July weekend, when we're supposed to celebrate our independence and freedom. "Papers, please..." |

You ride a scooter? *mfff* <<snicker>>
ETA: I'm not terribly shocked to hear this, though, especially coming from Roanoke. Yep, I ride a scooter. With gas near 4 bucks a gallon, I pay about a buck and a half a week to get back and forth to work. How 'bout you? |

I try to give Cops the benefit of the doubt as I realize that they deal with the lower 3% of society constantly. However, it's hard to cut them slack when they can't seem to remember that other 97% of the population is nothing like the 3% they deal with non-stop.
Generally speaking, I think Cops suffer from an authoritative syndrome which is brought on by a slightly lower than average IQ. |

Aren't police roadblocks unconstitutional because they operate on the premise that everyone passing through is guilty, without any evidence, of some crime? I thought law enforcement needed probably cause to stop, detain, and interrogate a U.S. Citizen? The USSC has said it's okay as long as they oppress everybody equally. |

I despise those roadblocks. They are for your safety and have nothing to do with revenue or a nice relaxing way to grab a little Holiday OT. That's the argument- and then the deputies ask something like "Is your scooter stolen?" I wonder what the deputy would have said if you countered with an explanation that the checkpoints are only legal for safety purposes and not law enforcement ones, and that their question violated that.

Making the mental shift to deal with the 97% can't be easy to do all the time. Still, it makes life rather difficult when they don't. Scooter: a great idea when it is possible. I ride a motorcycle for the same reasons on my non-scooter-able commute. |

Yup. Pretty much this. The shitty thing about cops is their word is gold in a court, no matter what they say or do. Fuckers. I had a cop flat out lie in court about 2 weeks ago, and the judge bought it, hook line and sinker. |

I have seen a lot of cases thrown out because the judge did not think the officers story was credible. |

Quoted: Quoted: What kind of scooter? I'd love to have a Stella or classic Vespa. It's a 2009 Yamaha Zuma. Good looking scooter, plus you can keep a 12-pack on ice under the seat But back to the subject, I hate these fucking roadblocks with a passion. ![]() Other than politicians(police admin falls under this category too), I really don't know who likes them. |

Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile My buddy has a couple of Vespas and another friend wanted to go riding around on them and talked me into go with him. We rode all over town, we went through the bank drive through so he could make a deposit. Just goofed off for about an hour on them. When we got back I noticed that mine had a bumper sticker on the back that said: Just Flossin Like a Mothefucker Clowning and Shit with a picture of a rapper on it.
