Stuff getting printed out should be at least 150 dpi. Images on a computer screen are, what, like 72 dpi? Anyone who actually does work in the area, please correct me. But, the actual size on a computer screen needs to be at least twice as big as the actual size when printed out for it to look good. |

i dont like using below 200 dpi for large prints. it really does depend on what size the poster is going to be. dpi = dots per inch more dots per inch = more detail/more photographic. 150 dpi would be ok for 8x10 or (preferably) smaller in my opinion. thats only 1200 dots for the 8 inch side. standard monitors on your computer output 72 (windows) or 96 (apple) dpi. as you can see, 150 dpi is barely above a monitor's output... print that in a large poster size and its going to look really grainy up close. for really large size... like billboard... you couldnt notice it at the typical viewing distance. for somthing hanging on your wall that you can stand mere inches away from... higher dpi is better... 300 dpi or better. |
