[ARCHIVED THREAD] - STD test? (Page 1 of 2)

Howdy gents, I'm looking to get a STD test done and I wanted to know what exactly I'm in for. I've heard stories about a swab that make me cringe. I could have done a google search, but then I'd miss out on the funny bullshit that will probably be in most of the replies.
I'm not looking for anything in particular, just a broad test to show I don't have HIV, dormant herpes, etc. What am I in for? Should my insurance cover it or will I be paying for the test? If I'm paying, how much do they cost? Is this something I go to my normal doctor for? I'm getting this done as part of a mutual agreement with the new girlfriend. Her last relationship was with a professional athlete, so I want to make sure he didn't give her something she doesn't know about. I decided it was only fair for me to get tested since I am asking her to do so before we have sex. I know the rules, but no pics. From what I know about her brother and father both could be arfcommers. I haven't met them yet, so having them come across a picture of her and seeing the topic wouldn't make the best first impression ETA: In before the "You got da AIDS" picture. |

The stuff that can get cleared up with antibiotics gets the q-tip down the peter test. The stuff that requires suppressive therapy requires a blood test. When I went in to have it done I had a hot nurse and I immediately got a hard on when she grabbed my Johnson. |

If you don't currently have symptoms then it's just a blood IgG test for HSV-2, syphillis, HIV, etc. I don't think they can do a full screen for all HPV strains, although I guess if you paid enough someone could do it. You could go to your regular doctor but the local public health clinic probably has all of the tests already in stock. Just don't be shocked by their clientele. |
|
Quoted: Quoted: They'll stick a swab up your urethra. Have fun. Surely, there's a better way... There is. That's only for people who are currently showing symptoms. If you don't think you're infected then all you need is a blood test, unless you want to make extra-sure you don't have an asymptomatic infection. |

the q-tip thing is old tech. all tests can now be done with blood/pee. i got tested for EVERYTHING a few months ago and the dr laughed when i asked about the q-tip thing How much did that cost if you don't mind me asking? Did your insurance pay for it, or was it on your dime? |

Are you going to dump her is she does have something?
What if you have something? ![]() If she has something that could leave me with long term consequences even after our relationship ends, then yes I will dump her. If I have something then it's out in the open and she can decide how she want's to handle that. I'm very careful, and I'm confident that wont be an issue. However, if it is, I'll sleep in the bed I've made (probably alone |

yeah fuck all that noise...............the things some of you guys will do just to get your dick wet. outside of relation to a proffession i just cannon submit to this train of thought Huh? I'm not quite sure what you're saying here, but your English teacher would be proud. Both of us getting tested was my idea, not a hoop she is making me jump through before she opens her legs. |

I have no idea if you guys are trying to fuck with him by saying he's going to have a q-tip stuck up his penis but thats not what happened when I got tested lol.
You pee in a cup and they take your blood. Wait 1 - 2 weeks. I told the lady that if she insisted on sticking something up my penis I was leaving. She said no worries, pee in the cup we haven't done the other thing in 10 years. |

There are different samples taken depending on the reason for the visit and type of activity engaged in. The type of test the center uses also affects the sample type. Not all tests are FDA approved for all sample types. Some test centers have cleared a test for off-label use, not all will go through that process. The possibilities are: Oral swab Urethral swab Rectal swab Chancre swab Vag swab Urine sample Blood sample Secondary site swab from suspected transfer If there are no symptoms you could just have a urine sample and/or blood sample taken. Just last week a co-worker found syphilis from a foot blister swab. He declined to ask what was done to cause the infection there. |

Planned Parenthood does blood and urine samples. They are specialists and take less insurance providers. In the office and out the door in about 10 minutes -$160 Patient First(Walk in Clinic) did the same thing with an hour wait and takes most providers - $20 co pay Results took about 10 days. Most wont call you back if its a Negative. |

| Oh, the memories. Many years ago, I was a young PFC in Korea. I went to sick call, complaining of severe pain while urinating. The PA automatically assumed I had an STD, and proceeded to do the fuzzy wool qtip up the johnson routine just to confirm it. I got a shot and some antibiotics and was sent on my way. 12 hours later, I was in some of the most intense pain I have ever had in my entire life, and urinating blood. It was then determined that I in fact did NOT have an STD. The oh so clever PA rodded my Johnson WHILE I was passing a kidney stone. At least the actual Dr I saw on my second trip felt sorry enough for me that he introduce me to the pleasures of a Morphine Rush. |

It may come back positive for silicon dioxide. If they're in the region they might as well test. |

What test is it where you pee in a cup and get blood drawn?!? I am asking because I work in a lab and it's still a swab up the pee pee if you want to test for the clap. I know of no other test for that, even the genetic test that is run on the instrument starts with a swab up the pee pee. They must not test for everything if you aren't having symptoms. clap = gonorrhea |

ETA: Never mind, I read mcantu's post |
