| I just picked up a Seiko SKX173 dive watch. It is an automatic so no batteries, heavy stainless case and glow in the dark indicators on face and hands. I dive so I wanted a decent scuba watch that was easy to read too. I have gone diving with my Casio but found myself needing to write down my start time on my chart and looking at my watch to check time. With a dive watch I can adjust the bezel to my start time and see the elapsed time and actual time. Anyway, I feel it’s a good SHTF watch because no batteries, rugged, and very basic. I have heard there can be issues with the accuracy of automatics, what say you? Also, it was a little pricey for a basic watch...$250 |

I'm sure the watch will serve you well I have to ask why you feel $250 is a bit pricey for a dive watch though? High end dive watches cost MUCH, much moreSpeed |

| I saw the "monster" watch with the orange face and almost bought it, but I am military and that would be a fashion faux pas. I think knowing time would be handy; example could be what time to report to the re-education camp or the soup line starts at x:xx...see. Seriously though.....the Eco Drive looks like a great watch too, I don't think $250 is too much to spend on a watch, just a bit high for a very basic utility watch, most of the watches I was looking at ran from $250-$1500. |

Wtf do you need a watch for if SHTF? This, I will no longer be enslaved by minute management. OP said SHTF, not TEOTWAWKI. One still needs to know time in this situation, I think. My contribution. Citizen EcoDive. Never needs a battery, just light. http://i1008.photobucket.com/albums/af207/dirtyone04/photo-49.jpg WAY too busy for me. I shall have one of these someday: http://countycomm.com/maratacpilotauto.htm ETA: Fuck, it's back in stock and I don't have a spare $200. FUUUuuuuuuu!!!! |

I added an eBay Super Oyster bracelet to mine and spent a total of about $230. I like mine. I'm currently in the market to get a Seiko military automatic as the SKX007 is a little big to be wearing under french cuff dress shirts. But that aint' exactly the SHTF use you're talking about. Wtf do you need a watch for if SHTF? Curious about this as well. Do you have inside information on the time of this shtf you speak of? Makes it a lot easier to meet someone at a specific time. Just a thought. More specifically it makes it easier to get there before them
